Royal fans go into meltdown over Meghan Markle’s ‘sexy’ £56k dress… but some say she looks just like Poison Ivy
MEGHAN Markle's stunning dress from today's intimate engagement photos cost £56,000 - and royal fans have VERY mixed feelings about it.
Kensington Palace released the touching set of photos of Prince Harry and Meghan earlier today.
In one, the bride-to-be is wearing an eye-catching designer couture gown which is by British firm Ralph & Russo and, in a break from royal tradition, is sheer.
Kensington Palace told the gown was "privately purchased", but it's not known who bought it - or if they paid the full price.
Some fashion fans have taken to social media to gush over the dress - with style blogger Nicole Green describing it as "STUNNING".
"Can we just take a minute to swoon at these new engagement pics of Meghan in that sheer dress," Twitter user Polly wrote. "Bring that sexy into the royals girl!"
While journalist Jacquelin Magnay said: "Sheer, expensive, showbiz. Prince Harry's lass is breaking all the rules!"
But others were staggered by the high price tag, or thought Meghan looked more like "Poison Ivy" than Kate Middleton.
Writer Helen Pockett joked: "Kate's been recycling her sensible clothes for years and Meghan's out here in a £56,000 sheer couture dress."
While Jason Pinter wasn't a fan of the expensive gown.
He said: "All I can think while looking at the royal engagement photos is why did Meghan Markle dress like Poison Ivy".
And Jordann Marchetti wistfully wrote: "So Meghan Markles official engagement portrait dress is worth £56,000 - oh to be nearly a princess hey".
Yesterday, we revealed how Meghan swapped her natural look for heavier make-up and sleek hair at the Queen’s Christmas dinner, while wearing a favourite brand of the Duchess.
While etiquette expert William Hanson has critiqued Meghan's lack of tights in her official engagement photos, describing her look as "tacky".
