Giving your kid a surname for their first name is tipped to be a top 2018 trend, so would YOU choose any of these?

CHOOSING a name for your baby can be one of the hardest decisions you make as a parent.

But a trend which is tipped to be popular in 2018 is to select a surname for your child’s first name.

Laura Wattenberg, who is the author of The Baby Name Wizard, told the Chicago Tribune that it is expected that the surname fad will see a boom.

She said: “Whether or not the parents change their names at marriage, there's a feeling that you want both families to be represented equally in the kids' names.”

Some examples include names such as Harrison, Cooper, Kennedy, Ellis, Quinn and Finley.

And while it is more trendy at the moment to have surnames for first names in America, the concept is quickly catching on over in the UK too.

The concept is not necessarily new, but is expected to experience an increase with millennial mums keen to represent their maiden family name, if they have dropped it to take their husbands.

Olivia is the most popular girl's name of 2017 so far, while Harry comes second in the boys' list, but neither of them feature on this top 20 list.

The experts at  scoured through records from previous years, to work out which names will be the most popular next year.

When it comes to the girls' names, there's some surprising entries - with names like Hazel and Stella making a comeback.

While names like Finn, Theodore and Dylan are predicted to be big on the boys' list.
