We chat romance with the Bros frontman Matt Goss, 49, his return to the UK and what really happened with Rebecca Ferguson
The 49-year-old also tells us what popular Netflix Original series he has just auditioned for
WE sip a martini with the Bros frontman, 49, and chat finding love, coming back to Blighty and what really happened between him and Rebecca Ferguson.
Where: The Savoy hotel, London
FAB: Ooh, this is a romantic setting! Are you single, Matt?
MATT: Yes, I am single.
My last serious relationship was with [TV host] Daisy Fuentes, who I lived with for 10 years.
My most recent relationship came to a halt after my mum passed away [Matt’s mother Carol died from cancer in 2014].
I didn’t have the support I desperately wanted.
I needed to make sure my mother’s last days were met with love – brushing her hair, getting her ice cream, anything to make her feel better.
Would you like to get married?
I want to, 100%, but my first priority is to find a best friend.
I also need to address my grief. I want to find love, but I won’t compromise my heart. It needs to be right.
You’ve dated Rebecca Ferguson and Melanie Sykes…
We’re still friends. Rebecca and I went on a date and she was lovely.
She’s wonderful and such a talent, but I’m living in America and she has a family, which comes first.
Are you and your twin Luke still close?
We don’t see each other a lot but we FaceTime daily.
My mum thought there was only him when they cut the umbilical cord, so I was shouting for my life.
One of my lungs collapsed and I was in an incubator for three months and weighed 3.5lb. I made an entrance!
Is your relationship with Luke ever contentious?
We’ve just made a film about our lives, and it’s troubling in parts – like two worlds colliding.
Imagine being in a band with your brother.
There are many challenges! But there aren’t two people who love each other more. He’s my best friend.
Luke and I made a deal we’d never disband. He’s the drummer and I’m the singer, and that’s always going to be it.
BTW
Matt just signed with the same US management team as Dolly Parton.
He got the showbiz bug after starring in Cabaret at primary school.
He reckons he’s a bit psychic, with a history of mediums in his family.
Who do you listen to?
I love Adele. She’s the only person since Amy Winehouse I’ve wanted to duet with.
Bruno Mars is great, and I fell in love with Coldplay seeing them live.
Do you have showbiz mates?
My last party invite was from Ronnie Wood. He’s full of humility – I love that man. I love Elton [John] and George [Michael], god rest his soul. And I wrote a song with Sharon Stone – she’s a great songwriter!
Bros almost went bankrupt, so how did you get back on your feet?
It f**ks us off when people say that. It would’ve been far easier to go bankrupt, and it’s better from a business point of view. We spent years paying off our creditors.
What have you been up to since Bros split in 1992?
I’m proud of Bros, but if I hear “Matt Goss from Bros” one more time! There’s so much more to me. I’m involved in a Broadway musical of Upstairs, Downstairs, and I’ve got a children’s book coming out next Christmas.

What’s next for you?
I’d love to be a judge on The X Factor, The Voice or Britain’s Got Talent.
I’d like them to stop hiring people who’ve had one hit and hire someone who can navigate this industry!
It’s also one of my dreams to be a motivational speaker. And I’d like to do a bit of acting. I just auditioned for Netflix series Narcos. I’d like to do films and comedy.
