Her wedding to Prince Harry will be the first day that Meghan Markle is permitted to wear a tiara

The Royal Household is hardly short of flashy headgear, so there are quite a few options for Meghan to choose from.

Kate Middleton wore the Cartier halo tiara on her wedding day, which belonged to the Queen Mother, so royal experts are speculating whether Meghan could walk down the aisle with one of Princess Diana’s favourites instead.

The Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara has been worn a few times by Kate Middleton, but was apparently a firm favourite of Princess Diana’s, who received it as a wedding present from Queen Elizabeth II in 1981.

Diamond expert Grant Mobley told : “This was one of the most iconic pieces she wore, thus it would mean a great deal to the couple.”

Princess Diana didn’t wear a royal heirloom on her wedding day - instead, she opted for the Spencer tiara, from her own family.

Although Prince Harry may want to ask his uncle, Princess Diana’s brother, for the tiara, it won’t have any historical royal significance.

The Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara contains 100 carats of white diamonds, and was commissioned from the House of Garrard by Queen Mary in 1914.
