This is the sentimental 70-year-old tradition Kate Middleton and Prince William’s newborn will continue
ANY day now Prince William and Kate Middleton will welcome their third child into the world.
Following the birth, it is expected the royal couple will reveal the baby to the world as they did with Prince George and Princess Charlotte – and there is a special meaning behind the infant’s blanket.
The new little Prince or Princess will be wrapped in a , if history is anything to go by.
This will follow in the 70-year tradition of the designer providing the snug blanket for the royal family’s newborns.
The sweet convention started back in 1948 when the Queen and her husband Prince Philip presented Prince Charles to the world.
When Prince William and Prince Harry were born, parents Prince Charles and Princess Diana followed suit and also used the same company.
As with any of the outfits that Meghan Markle or Kate Middleton wear, it is expected that sales of the sweet shawl will boom if it is used again for the third baby.
Director of GH Hurt & Son, Gillian Taylor, told the in 2015 following the birth of Princess Charlotte: “Overnight we have seen dramatic increase in demand for this product from around the world.
“We were honoured that people from across the UK and around the world, the USA, Japan and Australia wanted to buy the same shawl.
“All of our customers were wonderful and patient. We had great feedback, that it's a beautiful shawl and worth a short wait.”
On October 17, Kensington Palace confirmed on Twitter that the due date is in April 2018 and The Sun later exclusively revealed that the baby could arrive on St George's Day, April 23.
Parking restrictions have gone up outside the exclusive Lindo Wing of St Mary’s hospital, Paddington.
They are enforced from April 9 to April 30.
The Sun's Royal Correspondent Emily Andrews believes the Duchess was forced to announce the pregnancy early after to suffering with hyperemesis gravidarum (severe morning sickness) as she did in her previous pregnancies.
