Are you pedicure-ready for toe ring sandals? The 90’s footwear trend is back with a vengeance
The beautiful sandals perfect for fashion toe-offs everywhere
IT was TOE-tally the coolest footwear trend of the 90’s – and now the toe ring sandal is back.
The strappy, barely-there sandals are taking over Instagram, with stylish users jumping at the chance to show off their summer pedicures in the unusual style which leaves toes bashfully exposed.
The trend (which we suspect may also be handy for keeping bunions at bay), first took off two years ago when Victoria Beckham shocked fashion watchers as she ditched her trademark stilettos for a fugly pair of Céline toe ring flats during New York fashion week.
But as usual, VB gets the last laugh. Her now sold-out pair would have originally set her back around £600 and have become an overnight fashion collectable.
Luckily it’s the UK high street to the rescue, with shelves filled with similar affordable styles just in time for beach season.
We like Miss Selfridge’s golden multi strap Piper sandals which, at £22, also give a nod to the perennially-fashionable gladiator trend.

Quiz at Debenhams has a gorgeous, pearl-embellished pair of white toe ring shoes, fit for wannabe mermaids.
Even better, they’ve been reduced from £24.99 to a bargain £19.99.

Meanwhile Marks and Spencer’s Autograph toe loop ring slides in four shades of buttersoft leather, from white to canary yellow, are bound to be an instant sell-out at £45.

For a pay day blow-out, Michael Kors’ daisy-embellished ‘Sonya’ slides, £85, hit just the right note for a summer of love and will appeal to fans of Marc Jacobs’s Daisy perfume, who want to wear the floral trend from head to toe.

Style icon Jackie Kennedy made the nude sandal famous in the Sixties when she holidayed in Capri, strolling through the island’s cobbled streets looking effortlessly chic in handmade sandals from local cobblers Canfora.
Modern converts to the now 72-year-old brand include Olivia Palermo and designer Kelly Hoppen, who have both been spotted in toe-ring styles from the store.
And while not cheap, the built-to-last shoes start at around £100 for the brand’s most classic Halle style.
Alternatively, foot fashionistas will go hopping mad for their adorable froggy-embossed pair in cobalt blue, costing around £190.

If you want to follow the trend to the extreme, some fashionistas are buying two pairs in different colours and wearing them as a mismatched set.
Others are even squeezing their toe-ringed feet into colourful pop socks or tights.
But we think that’s taking the trend a step too far.
