Mum spots woman wandering around hotel in her PJs – prompting a debate about exactly where it is appropriate to wear your nightie

The woman said she admired the pyjama-clad woman's 'chutzpah'

A MUM told how she was shocked to see a woman hotel guest come out the lift in her PJs - prompting a heated debate about where it is appropriate to sport nightwear.

The user told how she was stunned to see the woman casually wandering around the hotel in her jimjams.

She wrote: "We just got back to our hotel and the lift stopped at the floor with the bar, the doors opened and a woman got in wearing pyjamas and slippers and carrying a bottle of wine. She seemed a bit surprised to see us in the lift and we all got off at the same floor.

"I wouldn’t be brave enough to go to the bar in a hotel dressed like that, but I had to admire her chutzpah.

"Aibu [am I unreasonable] to think folk should at least throw on some clothes before appearing in public?"

Her question prompted debate, with many people saying they thought the woman was in the right.

"I like her chutzpah but I wouldn’t do it," said one mum. "I do however appreciate comfort and have changed into leggings and hoodie for hotel breakfast, then gone back to bed."

Another added: "In hotels, I think it’s ok to go from A to B in your jamas. Sitting in the restaurant or at the bar is a bit OTT but nipping round is fine, surely?"

But others deemed the woman lazy.

"Slovenly behaviour, I think," judged one commentator. "Not something I would ever do and yes I do judge people who're in their pyjamas when they're having breakfast in hotel restaurants. It's low standards."

Another added: "I genuinely felt self-conscious the one time I wore my PJs to go from the maternity ward to SCBU to breastfed my newborn after the nurses had told me to go down to get some rest. I had to walk a few mins to the lift, up 2 floors then into SCBU.

"In the middle of the night. I felt very uncomfortable. First and only time.
"So no, I don't agree that PJs in public places. It looks slovenly and dreadful, it takea a couple of mins to throw something on."

And, hilariously, some people revealed they had spotted people in their pyjamas in even more bonkers places.

One woman confessed: "I did once see a teenager wearing PJs at the theatre, complete with dressing gown. I did wonder about that."

Another added: "I queued behind a woman in Aldi the other day who was wearing a pink dressing gown and fluffy slippers. She was with an equally casually dressed friend and a shoeless child."

Just last week etiquette expert William Hanson gave us his verdict on people wearing PJs in hotel rooms - and it wasn't positive.

And previously The Sun Online revealed the most annoying passengers on a plane - and last year William Hanson told us who he believed should get the armrest on the plane.
