PRINCE Harry's new slimmer physique is down to his pre-wedding kale and quinoa diet, according to sources.

Bride-to-be Meghan Markle reportedly told Harry to ditch the burgers and as a result he has shed "at least half a stone".

Millions of royal fans around the world are expected to watch the pair wed this weekend, so it's hardly surprising Harry wanted to look his best for the big day.

He also ditched the carbs, became a member of a £575-a-month gym and joined Meghan in her love of juicing and clean eating - the idea that food should be as close to nature as possible, minimally processed and not from a factory.

It all sounds rather straight forward, especially if you can afford a luxury gym membership, but what is it really like to eat clean?

Darlene Aderoju, writing for , explained her journey through a diet that's "drastically different from my usual eating habits, which consist of daily caramel coffees, all the sweet and salty snacks my office has to offer, and a lot of white rice".

"At the end of the week, I looked and felt great. My skin seemed clearer and brighter, and I felt more energised," she said.

"One added bonus I didn't expect is that once I got into the swing of things, I was able to create a variety of enjoyable meals within the parameters of 'clean eating'.

"Eating healthy had an undeniable ripple effect. When I had a 'clean' breakfast, I wanted to keep the momentum going with a healthy lunch.

"By dinner, I had to eat clean because I'd feel as if all my efforts were in vain if I settled on unhealthy food."

Darlene said that she wouldn't follow the diet to a tee, but would definitely incorporate it into her daily routine...and would skip the caramel coffees for breakfast.

Nutritionist Helen Bond told The Sun Online: "With a special occasion like a wedding on the horizon, it can be tempting to turn to severely restricted, fad diets in an effort to shift pounds quickly.

"But, instead of ‘going on a diet’, change your eating habits for good; focus on the huge number of other benefits that eating well will have for your big day besides losing weight, such as a beautiful smile, glossy hair, strong nails and glowing skin."

Prince Harry, the sixth-in-line to the throne, will marry on May 19 in St George's Chapel, in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

The diet has certainly worked well for him given the amount of weight he has lost.

A source told the : "Meghan has completely changed Harry’s diet. She’s got him juicing and he has lost at least half a stone, which is a lot for someone as skinny as he is."

They added: "They have bought a top-of-the-range juicer and she has him on fruit and veg smoothies. She’s also weaning him off meat."

HOW EASY IS IT TO FOLLOW A ROYAL DIET?

Darlene Aderoju followed Prince Harry’s pre-wedding diet for a week, here’s what happened.

Day 1:

She started with fruit for breakfast but by lunchtime she was in Dunkin’ Donuts ordering a caramel iced coffee

Day 2:

She over slept so skipped breakfast – not advised on this diet.

But lunch and dinner were well balanced meals of chicken and veg and shrimp and quinoa.

Day 3:

A smoothie of kale, apples, bananas, and kiwi for breakfast – but she was still hungry afterwards.

Day 4:

Cravings for unhealthy food had disappeared and she started enjoying the healthy meals.

Day 5:

Getting the hang of how to eat clean, she was able to make quick and easy healthy food instead of running out for coffee.

Day 6:

Finally got to grips with the whole diet and knew what to grab when she was on the go.

Day 7:

Looked and felt healthier, so she vowed to incorporate the diet into her everyday routine.

Harry revealed how much his diet had changed on while visiting Chicago earlier in the year, confessing that he had given up pizza.

On another visit, the royal, who has previously been spotted smoking, admitted he had never eaten a kebab.

And in April we revealed Megan had encouraged him to quit the fags and cut down on boozing.

Meghan loves healthy food and used to regularly share smoothie ideas on her online lifestyle page, The Tig, which has since closed.

In 2015 she told about her diet.

Describing her daily breakfast, she said: "[It's] Clean Cleanse vanilla shake with blueberries or an acai bowl with fresh berries, manuka honey and bee pollen (that's my absolute favourite)."

She also described green juice as her idea of fast food.

"That's fast," she said. "And it's food. (It's been many moons since I went through a drive thru)."
