MEGHAN Markle’s a fan of the messy, done-undone low bun, so it was with no surprise the newlywed opted for this popular style at the Royal Wedding.
Her hairdresser for the occasion was New York-based Serge Norman, and he's lifted the lid on what the bride was like on the morning of her wedding and secrets surrounding the up-do style.
The 52-year-old even revealed the super cheap supermarket item that helped to achieve that perfect messy bun look.
“I am stilling pinching myself. It’s just one of those moments you dream of,” the hairdresser said.
"I wanted to go with something on who she, she has a beautiful head of hair and is gorgeous, so it was just easy.
"We worked really closely together but there was nothing contrived about it. We knew what we wanted to do. We wanted something that wasn't effortless and really timeless."
The key ingredient to this timeless and effortless look? Hair pins.
And don’t think these are special, bespoke hair pins Serge used. Rather, they were just any old hair pins you can buy from Superdrug.
“Pins, they were key to this updo,” Serge revealed.
"There was a lot of easing underneath and a little messiness. I just used long, regular pins. Things that you could just find in the shop for a few pounds."
The good news is, it’s an easy style to recreate at home, and all you need is a round brush, hairspray and pins!
Here’s how Serge did it on the day (it only took 45 minutes!).
"I dried it with a round brush and then used a little iron on the edges just to give it texture. And then put it up. Pouff!
He also revealed: "The key is not making it too tight. I really wanted it to be loose. There were a lot of little bits [round her face]. I wanted her to be able to tuck it behind her ears if she wanted to do, because that is what she normally does.
"The shape has to be seen a little bit through the veil so I needed a certain volume to it to see the shape through the veil.
"There was a lot of easing underneath and a little messiness. I just used long, regular pins. Things that you could just find in the shop for a few pounds”.
Serge did explain that it wasn’t his first time in creating Meghan’s ultimate hairstyle for the day; he did a trial last week to ensure it was picture-perfect.
He also revealed that the effortless bride-to-be was not at all nervous.
“On the day she was calm and chatty. She was very happy; it was a beautiful morning, the perfect morning to get married," he said.
“No nerves. If there were there, they didn’t show. She was very happy, very excited.”
In other news, Meghan dazzles in Stella McCartney dress and Diana's ring as Harry dons a tuxedo for their wedding reception. It's worth noting - there isn't a hair out of place!
