BEAUTY & THE FEAST

As Jamie Oliver reveals his olive oil skin secret, we find more edible beauty products

There are a host of tasty items that can be swiped from the kitchen cupboard and used in the bathroom - here are some more foods that can help you look...peachy

JAMIE OLIVER is known for his copious use of olive oil – drizzling it over salads, whizzing it into pesto or dripping it over bruschetta.

But the TV chef has admitted he rubs the stuff all over his body as well.

The 42-year-old said splashing extra virgin olive oil on his skin keeps him looking young.

Jamie told Closer mag: “I use Clinique moisturiser on my celebrity face and then I’m a massive believer in olive oil for the body. You just rub it in vigorously — it’s what the Romans used to do.

“Why spend a fortune on creams when extra virgin olive oil is the purest thing? My legs are all lovely softness.”

But olive oil is not the only staple that can be swiped from the kitchen cupboard and put straight in the bathroom cabinet.

Here, we look at other foods that can help you look . . . peachy.

MOISTURISER: Try slathering your mug with mushy avocados. The fruit will protect, repair and soften skin.

FOUNDATION: Mix raw chocolate powder with coconut oil for an emergency make-up fix.

EYESHADOW: Powdered spirulina makes for a great eyeshadow, as do crushed dried blueberries. Mix with a little coconut oil and apply.

DEODORANT: Baking powder is a great deodorant, as it is naturally antibacterial.

Banana ‘Botox’

WRINKLE CREAM: Mash up some bananas and apply to your face, leave to dry and wash off with cold water – it’s nature’s Botox.

BODY SCRUB: Used coffee grounds make for a brilliant natural exfoliator.

EYE MAKE-UP REMOVER: Stubborn make-up can be removed with coconut oil. Just warm between the fingers and massage around eyes.

FOOT SPA: Mix warm whole milk with Epsom salts in a bowl with some warm water. The acids in the milk will soften hard skin and relieve puffiness in feet and legs.

FACE MASK: For glowing skin, leave honey on face for 15 to 20 minutes.

EXFOLIATOR: Mix together brown sugar, oats and lemon juice and use to scuff away dry skin.

LIPSTICK: Slice open a beetroot and press to your lips to get a dark rouge colour. Apply in layers to get a truly deep blush.

TOOTHPASTE: Mash up straw berries, dip your toothbrush in then scrub teeth for a pearly white smile. Apparently Britney Spears swears by this technique.

MASCARA: Mix cornstarch with your mascara to volumise and create lashes a Kardashian would be proud of.

SHAMPOO: Eggs are packed full of omega 3 fatty acids, making them perfect for your locks. Beat one or two together, wet the hair, apply the egg, massage in and leave for up to five minutes.

CONDITIONER: Apple cider vinegar on damp hair banishes tangles.

LIP GLOSS: Cinnamon makes for a great lip plumper. Mix a pinch of powder with your favourite lip gloss for an Angelina Jolie-style pout.

SPOT TREATMENT: Take one or two tomato slices and rub on the problem areas. Do this twice a day every day and you’ll notice your acne fade away.

NAILS: Cooking spray will moisturise cuticles and help dry the top layer of nail varnish.

BUBBLE BATH: Try adding powdered milk to a warm bath. As Cleopatra knew, it will soften your skin.
