What does Meghan Markle call the Queen now? Sweet family name the royals use for Her Majesty
THE public refer to the Queen by many names - Queen Elizabeth, Her Majesty, Her Royal Highness, or less officially as our beloved "queenie".
And although our Royal Family are among the most famous in the whole world, that doesn't mean that they don't have their own nicknames for each other.
What do the Royal Family call Queen Elizabeth?
Keen watchers of Netflix's The Crown will already know that the Queen's life-long nickname is Lilibet.
Originally used by her mother, father and younger sister Margaret, this nickname dates back to Queen Elizabeth II's childhood in Windsor.
It began as the young princess could not pronounce her own name.
Only Her Majesty's closest family and friends are permitted to refer to her by the name.
Ingrid told that Meghan may refer to the Queen as "Mama" once the Duchess of Sussex has settled into life as a member of the Royal Family.
But this nickname is only allowed to be used after Meghan "gets to know her as Diana did".
To start with, everything remains very official and formal.
Ingrid said: "When Meghan greets the Queen... she will address her as Your Majesty and curtsy."
So far, so normal.
Following this, Ingrid says that Meghan will refer to the Queen as "Ma'am" and that this will be "thrown in the conversation as many times as possible".
Only then can Meghan start to refer to her grandmother-in-law by the pet-name, "Mama".
What is Meghan Markle's full name and title?
Although the newest member of the Royal Family is known as Meghan Markle, her first name is actually Rachel - just like her character in Suits.
But it is not unusual for Hollywood actors and actresses to adopt a stage name which may be why Meghan chose to use her middle name.
Since marrying into the Royal Family on May 19, 2018, the American actress adopted the title of the Duchess of Sussex.
Meghan also has HRH before her official title and is known as Her Royal Highness Princess Henry of Wales.
