Why does Meghan keep wearing neutral colours? Fashion expert says it’s all because of the QUEEN
Meghan Markle's demure look is a far cry from her former days as an actress when she favoured short skirts and party dresses
WE could pretty much guess the colour of Meghan’s wedding dress before we saw it – white.
But as the weeks have gone by, it seems the new Duchess of Sussex is sticking to a theme - and the Queen is the reason.
Our first glimpse of the newlywed came just days after her wedding to Prince Harry, when the couple attended Prince Charles’ birthday bash.
The new royal wore a blush pink dress by Goat, with matching hat and clutch – and nude tights.
It was at the Trooping of the Colour when we caught a glimpse of the former actress again, this time she opted for another pale pink dress, this time by Givenchy, who also made her wedding dress.
And there was another similar hat to match.
The 36-year-old then accompanied the Queen on her first solo engagement, a nod to the pair’s blossoming relationship, which saw Meghan ride the coveted Royal Train, reserved only for the most senior royals.
As they toured Cheshire, Meghan opted for a nude dress which stopped just below the knee.
The dress was finished with a slim belt and cape design around the neck – and the standard matching clutch and heels.
Their most recent engagement saw the Duke and Duchess attend Royal Ascot, a first for Meghan.
She opted for another Givenchy design, a long-sleeved dress featuring full-length buttons with subtle detailing around the waist, and finished with an asymmetrical hem.
Not forgetting the matching clutch and heels, and another belt at the waist.
As Meghan begins to get into the swing of royal life, it seems one of her biggest changes has been in her wardrobe.
Fashion expert Lucas Armitage has revealed there may be a very clever reason Meghan is sticking to a palette of nude and neutral shades.
He told : “I feel this is a clever styling tactic as it will always work with the Queen's look; she is known and applauded for her use of bright fun colours.
“The use of neutral colour on Meghan part is also a show of respect to the Queen so she never looks like she is trying to outshine her.
“I would be shocked if Meghan ever opted for a bold colour, although it’s interesting to note in her previous life she was a fan of bright hues.
“I think the Queen and Meghan's relationship at this point is one built on respect, and Meghan has shifted her own personal style to adopt a more demure regal look - something I think the Queen will be thankful for.”
The Queen is well-known for wearing striking colours, stepping out in bright blue for the Trooping of the Colour, lime green during her tour of the north with Meghan, and yellow at Ascot.
It’s been said the Queen doesn’t just favour bright colours due to a personal choice, but wears them so she can be spotted easily.
Meghan’s new style is seen as complimentary to this, but it’s a far cry from her previous look before she was a royal.
The former Suits actress was a fan of mini-dresses, shorts, and even fronted a line of leather clothing.
