Where was Prince Louis’ christened and how many royal christenings have there been in Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace?
ST James’s Palace is the most senior palace of the British Monarchy, and it’s also where Prince George’s christening was in 2013.
It has played host to a lot of iconic royal events throughout the years, including Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s wedding and was the location for Prince Louis’ christening on July 9.
What is the palace’s history?
Built way back in 1531 to 1536, the palace was built by King Henry VII and dedicated to Saint James the Less.
Although no longer the principle residence of the Monarch, a few minor members of the Royal Family use it as their London residence.
It is a Tudor building which has been home to a number of Kings and Queens.
It is still a working palace and is used to hold many official receptions.
Where is St James’s Palace?
The Palace is located in Westminster, Central London.
It’s on Malborough Road, right next to St James’ Park which stands between it and Buckingham Palace.
What other royals have been christened there?
Prince Louis was christened at the Chapel Royal, and although his older brother Prince George was christened there, sister Charlotte was not.
However, quite a few royals have been christened at the palace.
As Prince James, Duke of York, second son of Charles I and Henrietta Maria was born in 1633 at St James’s and also christened in the Chapel Royal.
Prince Beatrice of York was also baptised at the palace, as were siblings Lord Frederick Windsor and Lady Gabriella Windsor.
