WE all know by now that squatting is the foolproof way to sculpt your behind.
But if you spent all of secondary school P.E lessons in the girls changing rooms or staring off into the distance like us, here's everything you missed about squats...
What is the best squat technique?
No question about it, squats are hard work.
And the more physically strenuous an exercise is, the harder it is to perfect.
The best squat technique means keeping your heels firmly planted on the floor and you torso slightly tilted.
But while squats are never going to be the easiest, only sit as deep as you comfortably can to avoid doing any damage.
How to do the perfect squat
- Stand with your feet a fraction more than hips length apart
- Keeping your hips back, bend your knees and keep them slightly open
- Go into the squat position as if you were going to sit down - keep your heels on the ground and shoulders back
- After you've held the position for a few moments, press down into your feet and straighten your legs
How many squats should I do a day?
The fitness experts at recommend repeating this squat between 10 and 20 times in sets of three.
So that could mean doing 60 squats in one workout session.
And like any form of exercise, you won't see the results of your work overnight.
In order to keep up your progress, this squatting session needs to be repeated at least three times a week.

What muscles does squatting work?
Squats are a great form of exercise because they work the quadriceps, hamstrings and glutes.
In simpler terms, they strengthen and tone the legs and bum and leave keen gym bunnies with a behind that wouldn't look out of place on Instagram.
