Thomas Markle denies ‘faking heart attack’ in birthday card he wrote to ‘Duchess Meghan’
The retired lighting director sent his daughter two birthday cards
THOMAS Markle sent estranged daughter Meghan two birthday cards to celebrate her 37th on August 4th – but heard no response.
The retired lighting director, 74, was concerned Meghan may have read “bull***t” reports that he faked his heart attack.
Subsequent surgery prevented him from attending the Royal Wedding at Windsor Castle on May 19th.
Thomas told : “I wanted to reach out to her on her birthday. I wrote, ‘I didn’t fake the heart attack. I really wanted to be with you. Love, Daddy'.”
One card featured a picture of flowers, while the other had “singing animals” on the front.
Thomas addressed them to “Duchess Meghan” and sent them via Federal Express to an address he had been given by a palace official before the rift with his daughter began. “I’ve heard nothing,” he said.
Meghan and Harry tied the knot in front of a star-studded guest list, including The Beckhams, George and Amal Clooney, and Oprah Winfrey. Thomas was noticeably absent.
The Duchess of Sussex has not spoken to her father in almost three months.
Meghan reportedly wants time away from dad, after his interviews begging her to get in touch.
Meghan and Harry had an explosive row with Thomas, while he was recovering in hospital from heart surgery.
It happened after Harry told him he was in that position because he had not listened to their advice not to speak to the press - following the paparazzi scandal.
Thomas told The Sun On Sunday: “I felt disrespected by them. I was recovering from a heart attack, lying in a bed, having a phone call, and the things were being said that hurt me. I felt like I was being blamed for my mistakes when I was in my hospital bed recovering from a heart attack.”
Now Meghan wants time apart from Thomas. A US source revealed: “Royal officials have met and discussed how to deal with him complaining that she has cut him off. They know it is a problem.
“Meghan loves Thomas and does want to maintain a relationship with him in the long run. But at the moment she feels he needs and bit of space. She also wants to take a bit of time out.
“She is adjusting to married life and her new role in the spotlight. Meghan is hopeful that things will get better but it will take time. There is no quick fix.”
Thomas told The Mail On Sunday: “I’m not mad at Harry. I’m not mad at Meghan. I love them. I wish them well. But as for the rest of it, f*** it. I’m done.”
