MEGHAN Markle stunned in a navy Givenchy dress and Noel Stewart hat as she arrived at Princess Eugenie’s wedding yesterday.

And, eagle-eyed royal fans may have noticed that the Duchess of Sussex, 37, was carrying a pair of Prada leather gloves as she made her way into St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.

The £324 accessory may appear at odds with the unseasonably warm weather, but they are actually a nod to the Queen.

Her Majesty is hardly ever without gloves – though they’re usually white – during royal events.

Genevieve James, creative director of Cornelia James, the Queen’s preferred glove brand, : "The Queen wears gloves because they’ve always been part of her style. The mind’s eye picture of the Queen is the white gloved hand waving."

But style isn’t the only reason she wears them - it’s actually for hygiene, too.

Genevieve explains: "They’re necessary because if you’re the Queen, you’re shaking a lot of hands, so they protect her hands as well."

Princess Diana raised eyebrows when she abandoned the royal protocol to wear gloves in public.

Proving herself every bit the people’s princess, she refused to don a pair because she liked to have direct contact when shaking hands in public.

Princess Diana did, however, wear Cornelia James gloves to a few formal evening occasions.

Princess Eugenie wowed in a low-backed bespoke gown by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vo.

The Queen's granddaughter married her boyfriend of eight years Jack Brooksbank, 32, who popped the question against the dramatic backdrop of a sunset volcano in Nicaragua back in January.

Eugenie, who works as an associate director at a London art gallery, wore her childhood surgery scars with pride, in a gown which exposed signs of a spinal op she had at the age of 12.

The princess had major surgery to correct a curvature of her spine, known as scoliosis, and had steel rods inserted into her back.
