These are all Meghan Markle’s favourite foods that she won’t be able to eat while pregnant
The Duchess of Sussex, 37, announced her pregnancy with Prince Harry, 34, yesterday
MEGHAN Markle made a name for herself as a foodie before becoming a royal, thanks to a popular lifestyle blog and stream of social media snaps of fancy meals out.
But the Duchess of Sussex, 37, will have to avoid some of her favourite foods now she's pregnant with 34-year-old Prince Harry's baby. Here's what's off the table...
Seafood and eat it
A quick scroll through Meghan's now-deleted Instagram page revealed she loved seafood like mussels and sushi.
The former Suits actress once described LA's Sushi Park as one of her favourite restaurants, and called the Japanese food a key staple of a healthy diet.
Pregnant women should avoid raw shellfish, because of the bacteria, and raw sushi, unless the fish has been frozen first, because it could contain parasitic worms which make you ill. Sorry Meg!
Bit cheesy
Meghan once wrote that she'd "never met a cheese plate I didn't like" on Instagram, but that may change now she's a mum-to-be.
Expectant women have to steer clear of many soft cheeses, including brie, chevre, roquefort and Camembert.
These cheeses can be a breeding ground for bacteria like listeria, which can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth or severe illness in a newborn.
You can, however, eat cooked versions of these cheeses - like baked camembert and pasta dishes containing blue cheese.
Nice to meat you
One thing Meghan loved adding to her cheese boards was a charcuterie selection, but uncooked cold meats like salami, prosciutto and pepperoni can contain parasites.
Freezing these meats at home should make them safe to eat, but they're often best avoided in restaurants.
During an interview , Meghan described "a beautiful ribeye" as her favourite meal.
But she'll need to make sure that meat's cooked 'well done' over the next few months.
Green with envy
Meghan also loves a good green juice, describing it as part of her "food-as-medicine philosophy" in an interview .
She reckons it's as good of an energy booster as a caffeine packed coffee.
But pregnant women should avoid freshly juiced smoothies, because unpasturised juices can cause illnesses like E. Coli.
Eggs-tremely important
Meghan previously described an omelette with fresh herbs, cheese and toast as her breakfast of choice, during an interview with Delish.
The duchess can still enjoy eggs during pregnancy, but needs to make sure they're completely cooked through, to avoid exposure to Salmonella.
This doesn't apply to eggs stamped with the British Lion, which are safe to eat even if raw, but Meghan should take care in restaurants or if eating duck or quails eggs.
Wine not?
No surprises here, but wine is definitely off the table for the mum-to-be.
Meghan named her now-deleted lifestyle blog The Tig after her favourite red wine, Tignanello.
While the actress described a typical dinner as pasta with courgette, lots of parmesan and a glass of wine in an interview with Delish.
