Spice Girls launch limited-edition fashion range – and it’s for a VERY good cause
The girl band's T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies are only available for three weeks
THE fashion choices of Scary, Ginger, Baby, Posh and Sporty have been adored - and copied - by a generation of young women.
So the Spice Girls' new clothing range, which will raise money for women's charities working towards gender equality, are likely to be a hit.
Earlier this week The Sun's Bizarre column exclusively revealed that four members of the legendary girl band - Mel B, Mel C, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner - had reunited, and yesterday their tour sold out within minutes.
Now the group are following in the footsteps of their fifth absent member, Victoria Beckham, and have released a fashion range.
They have teamed up with Comic Relief to create a which will raise money for female-focused projects.
The collection features #IWANNABEASPICEGIRL on the front - a play on their 1996 hit single Wannnabe - and it's only available for three weeks.
- #IWANNABEASPICE GIRL T-Shirt, £19.26 from Represent -
- #IWANNABEASPICEGIRL Sweatshirt, £30.81 from Represent -
- #IWANNABEASPICEGIRL Hoodie, £30.81 from Represent -
All proceeds from sales of the items - which cost between £16.84 and £30.81, and come in white and grey - will go to Power Up, part of Comic Relief's Gender Justice campaign.
In a statement, the Spice Girls said: "Equality and the movement of people power has always been at the heart of the band.
"It is about equality for all, 'every boy and every girl'.
"We recently found out that charities focused on issues faced by women don’t get the funding that they desperately need, so launching a campaign to raise funds for these issues is incredibly important to us and an area we want to support.”
Liz Warner, Comic Relief's chief executive, said: "Girl Power is a shared passion.
"Right now, this movement for equality is uniting the world in the most spectacular way and this very generous gift is going to help us support even more organisations fighting for the rights of women and girls here in the UK.
"We are proud to be the ones to take this forward with the Spice Girls and look forward to seeing the difference we can make together.”
The campaign aims to tackle women's issues including the gender pay gap, domestic violence, female genital mutilation, the lack of women in leadership roles, and the advancement of women in sport.
It comes as it was revealed The Spice Girls have broken ticket sale records as fans struggled to secure their place at a show in an online queue of more than 700,000 people.
They added a string of dates to their reunion tour after fans vented their frustration in the rush for tickets.
The group, who will go back on the road together next year without Victoria Beckham, announced they will play extra dates in London, Coventry and Manchester.
