Trendy low-carb diets promoted by celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Gwyneth Paltrow do not work, experts warn
Experts claim that celebrities urging overweight people to ditch potatoes, bread and pasta is 'irresponsible' and can lead to weight gain
TRENDY low-carb diets promoted by celebrities do not work, experts warn.
Urging fatties to shun spuds, bread and pasta is “irresponsible” and can lead to weight gain.
It comes as a poll found 37 per cent of slimmers had tried low-carb diets backed by stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and Kim Kardashian.
Two-thirds wrongly thought the regimes boosted weight loss and 35 per cent thought it impossible without axing carbs.
Almost half often felt hungry on the diets, such as the Atkins.
Dr Jacquie Lavin, of Slimming World, which polled 2,103, said carbohydrates played a key role in a healthy diet and sustainable weight loss.

She said advising people to follow a low-carb diet “sets them up to fail”.
Dr Shaobo Zhou, of the University of Bedfordshire, said “fad diets” could work short term but sticking to them slows metabolism, meaning the body may be unable to burn enough calories to maintain its weight.
He added: “This may lead to severe hunger which, ironically, causes people to start over-eating and gain more weight.”
Public Health England says a third of an adult’s diet should be carbs.
