Prince William jokes he FORGOT Kate Middleton’s birthday – and picks up a toy helicopter for Prince George

PRINCE William skipped part of wife Kate Middleton’s birthday today to visit hard-working individuals behind the life-saving London Air Ambulance.

The Duke of Cambridge was given a homemade card by the team to give to Kate, and William joked about nearly forgetting her special day.

When a young girl and boy handed over the card, Prince William said: "Well done you for remembering!" before saying: "I did remember this morning, so I was okay."

He also praised the little brother and sister for their neat card, saying: "Your writing is very good as well."

Prince William admitted he would “be in trouble” with Prince George if he forgot one special item from his day.

During the visit, he was given a little toy helicopter to give to his young son, five, who is said to be a huge fan of them.

According to the Sunday Times’s royal correspondent Roya Nikkah, Prince William said: “I can't go back without a helicopter for George, I'd be in trouble.”

The Duke of Cambridge was seen piloting the chopper today over the city skyline ahead of a visit to the Royal London Hospital.

He is a patron of the charity's 30th anniversary campaign - which aims to highlight the vital work it does and raise support for more facilities.

His visit to the hospital saw The Duke meet with clinicians, paramedics, pilots and crewmembers, to learn more about the challenges of working as a first responder in the capital.

He revealed he witnessed "appalling tragedies" as he paid tribute to his hero colleagues last year.

The Duke of Cambridge said: "As a team, we travel to some very daunting incidents and we have been though some incredibly tough times together, witnessing some appalling tragedies.
