What is the 10 year challenge? How to take part on Facebook and Instagram

SOCIAL Media has been going crazy with friends and celebrities comparing their current physical appearances to what they looked like ten years ago.

Here's everything you need to know about the #10YearChallenge that has taken over our newsfeeds.

What is the 10-year challenge?

The new challenge taking over social media sees people sharing pictures of themselves from now and ten years ago.

The challenge has been widely shared on both Twitter and Instagram and has been associated with various hashtags including #HowHardDidAgingHitYou, #10yearchallenge and #GlowUp.

It remains unclear how the challenge started, but it has seen social media feeds swamped with throwback pics of our friends, family and even the celebrities.

Many celebs have gone for the well-groomed look to prove they haven't changed a bit, but others - like Brie Larson - are up for a laugh

What do you have to do to take part?

The challenge involves social media users sharing a throwback photo of themselves from 10 years ago next to a photo from this year (or 2018, if you haven't been snapping much in the past two weeks).

The aim is to showcase how much you have changed (or not, in some cases!) as well as demonstrating just how much you've "glowed up."

Some stars have gone a step further, taking it back twenty or even thirty years.

So start sifting through those old photo albums and profile pics so share your image transformation today.

Which celebrities have taken part?

Stars from the big and small screen have taken to social media to share their incredible image overhauls with their fans.

Hollywood starlet Reese Witherspoon was one of the first on the bandwagon, but fans were left scratching their heads as both images looked almost identical.

The years have also been kind to The Saturdays star Una Healy, who looks very similar, apart from changing her hair from ginger to blonde.

And lucky Ellen Degeneres looks like she hasn't aged a day.

Caitlyn Jenner undoubtedly shows the biggest transformation as she captioned hers: "Now THAT is a #10YearChallenge Be authentic to yourself."

However, Vicki Pattison looks unrecognisable in her throwback pic and Made In Chelsea's Jamie Laing played it for laughs.

Does the challenge just include face shots?

Some people have taken the challenge to another level and have included pictures of places.

They have shown environmental changes as well as how we have taken on issues such as poverty and child mortality over the last 10 years.
