Meghan Markle will have infuriated Prince William by spending thousands and acting like a celebrity diva, says Paul Burrell

MEGHAN Markle bucked royal tradition by having a huge blowout £384,000 baby shower surrounded by stars in New York with no expense spared.
Princess Diana’s butler Paul Burrell revealed why Meghan’s A-list bash makes her look more like Kim Kardashian than a duchess… and why she needs to knuckle down and toe the royal line.
I think Prince William will be angered by all of Meghan's lavish extravagance this week and the fact her baby shower looked so 'celebrity' rather than 'royal'.
He has spent years working with the press to give them what they want but also gets what he wants in return - privacy.
Meghan is doing exactly what he doesn't - courting attention all for her and her baby.
Of course, a baby shower isn't a British tradition it’s an American one so even though Kate had one for George, it was very private and contained affair.
I think William as well as the Duchess of Cambridge will be totally bewildered by why Meghan is doing all this, as there’s no excuse for over-indulgence or excess and that’s what it seems to me.
Although William mixes with A-list celebrities, he doesn’t take them home with him, they aren’t his friends, they are people he works with.
The celebrity world in which Meghan was submerged seems to be where all her friends are, and that can only spell disaster.
Meghan knows to project herself, so every time you see her she is holding her baby bump, she is presenting herself in a certain manner, she is wearing designer clothes.
I can see it all unfolding the way Meghan has planned it.
The lines are getting blurred between celebrity and royal. There is a clear line between the two, and Meghan doesn’t know the difference.
The baby shower was obviously arranged to be in the spotlight. Why would you invite a CBS anchor to your event if it was private?
The Queen has always said: “We are not celebrities, to be royal is something very different.”
You will not see antics like this from the Cambridge family, there is no way.
They are so British, they are so well-behaved. Dare I say they are so well-behaved they are not as sparkly or lively or vivacious as Meghan.
And the Cambridges believe the key is to not let people in. It goes back to that old saying that the Queen said “don’t let daylight shine on magic” and that’s William’s mantra too.
But Meghan will have to tow the party line if she is to last.
She has to learn respect for William and Kate and she’ll have to curtsey to Kate as the future Queen and be seen to do it in public.
She will need to rein it in and stay safe behind closed doors. We don’t want to see Meghan every single day in the newspapers and on TV.
We don’t see Kate every day. We see them now and then. You can’t spoil what is 1,000 years of royal history.
She may say she doesn’t have to toe the line, but she has a royal title now and you have to give up a lot to be a member of the royal family.
She can’t have her cake and eat it.
I think we all have to wait with bated breath and watch the way this one is going to progress.
It is certainly a fiery, tempestuous comet streaking through the royal family.
Meghan will need to settle down to fit in with the royal family as everything has been such a rush.
It’s as though she’s cramming her life into the next three years.
It’s incredible to think she’s entered the royal family, became a royal wife, became a royal mother and will have a baby within a year.
We are on the fast-track here. I think everything will unfold very quickly with Meghan and we will see her dazed by it.
The royals aren’t fast. They are slow, they take their time.
Look at William and Kate. They are considered, they are measured, they are much simpler in lots of ways.
The two different families, the Sussex and the Cambridges, are drifting further and further apart, and that may be a good thing, because Kate and William have to remain spotless.
They have never put a foot wrong. Kate is an exemplary example of a queen in waiting and that’s what she has to be in our eyes.
She can’t get involved in all of this.
I’m glad she didn’t go to New York because if she had it would have reflected on her too.
And again, why was there no family at the baby shower? Why wasn’t her mother there? It all seems very odd to me.
Prince William tries to keep his family out of the spotlight, so the fact Meghan’s baby shower was so flaunted will be frustrating for him, and it is causing a rift in the family.
I think you are now seeing the fall out of what has been happening in previous months.
William has been saying to his brother “are you sure about this? Be careful.” He is looking out for his younger brother and he is concerned about him, and with due cause.
Harry is head over heels in love, and as he says: “What Meghan wants Meghan gets”.
He is not listening to anyone, he can be a little petulant. That’s who is he. William is not, he is considered, he is much easier to speak to and get along with.
There is a clear line between the being a celebrity and being a royal, and Meghan doesn’t know the difference.
Paul Burrell,
Harry is just more complicated. And that could be because Harry didn’t understand the passing of his mum at the time because he was too young, and it could all have stemmed from them.
Diana too let the press into aspects of her life, and it didn’t end well.
Meghan is doing it a different way though, through television and visuals.
When she was in New York, was she looking a little bewildered outside the hotel waiting for a friend? No.
It was giving time for the paps to take more pictures. A spectacle for the media.
William and Kate have gone skiing with the kids and they are much better off for it.
The best thing they can be done is to be seen on the slopes with the kids having a family vacation like Diana did, with no interaction with the press.
To see William and Kate on the ski slopes with their children will complete the picture and tell a thousand stories.
It will give you two sides to the story. The comparison between the Sussexes and the Cambridges is stark.
One royal is jet-setting on a private jet to New York and having a lavish time, and the other couple are having family time and embracing what matters most.
This country is going through a very difficult time at the moment. There are people in our country who are suffering, as she knows.
We don’t want to see royals behaving badly.
What Meghan is doing is handing every ammunition to shoot her down and she’s not helping herself.
She donated her baby shower flower arrangements to a charity... well, who wants second hand flowers that have been used and falling to bits?
The baby shower cost thousands, wouldn’t that money have been better off donated to the Grenfell projects on behalf of Meghan’s new baby?
I don’t think you can support charities and be there on the factory floor with people who are suffering one minute and then elevated into the echelons of celebrity world the next.
I think people don’t like it she’s not making herself any friends and there will be a backlash.
I think there are more surprises to come where Meghan is concerned and she will buck against royal tradition.
With the baby coming, she’s got the ideal platform to do this. She’s going to do it Meghan’s way and not the royal way.
Meghan and Harry will visit Morocco for a two-day visit on behalf of the British government this weekend.
The couple currently rent a £2.5million countryside bolthole in Great Tew, but are looking to find a new home in the area.
We previously shared inside Meghan and Harry’s new family home at Frogmore House which boasts 10 bedrooms and 35 acres.
