The woman, originally from Tennessee, revealed it was as if her "inbox caught on fire" when she made the tweak to her profile preferences.

Writing for , she said she was immediately bombarded with messages from "twenty- and thirty-something men just dying to take me on a date".

Adventurous Melanie, who climbs mountains and fearlessly travels the world solo, said some of the younger guys have admitted they are scared she'll find them "uninteresting" in comparison.

"I didn't set out to be a 'cougar', but it seems like Tinder is chock-full of lonely cubs."

Now living in France, Melanie admitted she's loving dating younger men, explaining that she found men her age just "weren't interested" anymore.

And it seems even the younger ones sometimes have a hard time keeping up with her pace too.

The comedian and writer said: "I find I can run laps around men my age. Even men 10 years younger than me are too old sometimes.

"My last boyfriend, who was nine years my junior, couldn't keep up with me."

Admitting she has the "sex drive of a teenage boy", Melanie added: "I've decided to embrace being a cougar.

"It's the best decision I've ever made."

Not only do the younger guys treat her better than anyone her own age ever has, she has found them to be more "feminist", "progressive", with less emotional baggage and keen to please her in the bedroom.

Before she started dating younger men, Melanie revealed she feared turning 40, saying popular culture painted it "as a death of sorts" for women.

Melanie wrote: "I was so worried about turning 40, certain I'd suddenly become invisible to men-like Cinderella turning into a pumpkin in the middle of a party full of twenty-somethings."

But since opening up her dating pool to younger men, she's never looked back.

Melanie added: "I have never had this much sex - let alone good sex-in my life. I've never felt so sexy and attractive.

"Call me a cougar if you want, but I feel more like a queen."

She also said that she feels the "outdated stereotypes" surrounding the idea of "cougars" are insulting to men.

Melanie revealed she has discovered from her new dating that younger men are not shallow and why shouldn't they be "attracted to women's minds, souls and hearts and other qualities that make us beautiful?"

And she also pointed out that if men dating other age groups don't have to worry about being slapped with a label, why should women?
