MEGHAN Markle is due to give birth any day but Baby Sussex's arrival will be shrouded in secret, as she and Prince Harry are bucking the much-loved tradition of posing on the hospital steps.

The decision has been controversial, with many asking how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could ask for privacy, following a star-studded baby shower and £30 million wedding paid for by the British public.

Princess Di introduced both her sons to the world on the hospital steps just hours after giving birth - and Kate Middleton followed suit with George, Charlotte and Louis.

Speaking about posing for pictures after William's birth, in 1982, Diana said: “When I left the hospital, I could barely put one foot in front of the other.

“My stitches were killing me. It was such a strain to stand there and smile even just for a few minutes.”

She added: “As soon as the car disappeared around the corner out of sight of the photographers, I burst into tears.”

Despite this bad experience, Diana felt compelled to repeat the performance in 1984, when Prince Harry was born.

Biographer Andrew Morton previously revealed Diana felt Prince Charles was disappointed Harry was a boy - and that he had red hair, a trait which runs in the Spencer family.

Despite his comments having hurt her feelings, Diana felt compelled to stand on the steps again just hours later - and smile like everything was fine.
