LOVE DON'T COST A THING

Bride-to-be reveals her mum was ‘disgusted’ that her engagement ring only cost £15

A BRIDE-TO-BE has revealed how her mum was "disgusted" that her engagement ring was only £15.

The woman insisted she was "not bothered" by the cost - and that she had pointed it out to her fiancé in a shop a couple of months previously - but asked the internet if her partner of three years should really have spent more.

In a post on titled 'Am I being unreasonable to think that the price of a ring shouldn't matter?' she explained how her mum doesn't even think her engagement counts due to the cheap ring.

The bride-to-be wrote: "Partner of 3 years asked me to marry him this morning and gave me a ring that I'd said I'd liked in a jewellers window a couple of months back, it was £15.

"We don't have a lot of money and I've always said I'm not bothered about having an expensive ring as it's not the ring that matters to me, it's the commitment of marriage for our future.

"So I was just as happy when he asked me as I would have been with an expensive ring.

"But when I rang my mum to tell her she was shocked and disgusted that my partner hadn't spent more money on the ring and said it basically doesn't count as an engagement.

"I'm not really into wearing jewellery and am not materialistic so the actual ring has never been a big deal to me! Is this just me?"

Her post garnered more than a hundred responses on the popular website, with the majority congratulating her on the engagement and telling her to "ignore" her "daft" mum.

One person wrote: "She's being daft, you don't need a ring at all for an engagement let alone an expensive one!"

Another commented: "Congratulations!!! The price of the ring doesn't count, its what the ring symbolises.

"And as long as you love it, who cares what anyone else thinks?"

A third shared: "Maybe he just bought a cheap ring in case you said no? £15 really is very miserly!

"I agree with you in general, but £15? wtf!"

And a fourth agreed: "If you're both genuinely skint and on the bones of your a*** then he's done what he could, if this isn't the case, then 15 quid is a bit of a p*** take."

Meanwhile, another noted: "Did your mum actually ask how much your ring was worth?? That says more about her!"

When asked if he would have bought her a pricier ring if that's what she had said she liked, the woman added: "He definitely would have.

"He would have taken out a loan to get me a £2000 ring if I had asked for one but I've always said in conversation that I wouldn't want him to spend a lot of money on a ring if we don't have it.

"It's just dampened the moment a bit having your mum say your engagement doesn't count because the rings too cheap. WTF."
