Prince Charles risks missing the birth of his youngest grandchild when he travels to Germany this week
Prince Charles is travelling to Germany with Camilla on Tuesday
THERE is no doubt that Prince Charles is looking forward to becoming a grandfather for the fourth time when Baby Sussex is born.
However, the Prince of Wales is now at risk of missing the birth of the newest addition to the royal family as he prepares to embark on a new royal tour this week.
Meghan Markle’s reported due date has been and gone, meaning that the royal baby is now overdue, and if she doesn’t go into labour by Tuesday Charles may well miss the birth.
The heir to the throne is set to travel to Germany on Tuesday, 7 May where he will spend three days in the country joined by his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.
The visit is at the request of the government and aims to “demonstrate the depth and breadth of the UK-Germany bilateral relationship and its enduring importance to both countries.”
The prince will meet with Angela Merkel with many speculating the visit to be an effort to boost relations ahead of Brexit.
While the visit will be of great importance to Charles, he is sure to be reluctant to miss the birth of his latest grandchild.
Meanwhile the palace has announced that Prince Harry’s visit to the Netherlands this week has been cut short.
The Duke of Sussex had surprised onlookers by sticking to his planned Holland trip this week - but this afternoon he confirmed the visit would be shortened to just one day instead of two.
The Prince had been due to visit Amsterdam on Wednesday and The Hague on Thursday, but the first day of the trip has now been cancelled.
A spokesman for the Sussexes said: "Due to the logistical planning for the travelling press to cover visits and engagements by The Royal Family, we have taken the decision to postpone The Duke of Sussex’s scheduled visit to Amsterdam on Wednesday 8th May 2019 .
"The Duke is currently scheduled to travel to The Hague on Thursday 9th May for the launch of the Invictus Games The Hague 2020 as planned."
While the change of plans is undoubtedly linked to the impending royal arrival, it is not clear exactly what the switch means.
It comes amid speculation that Meghan Markle, 37, has already given birth - with one over-excited fan filming a motorcade including a car with "pink blankets" driving through Windsor towards Frogmore cottage today.
And the speculation has continued to grow after the Queen was reported to have visited the parents-to-be at their home over the Easter weekend.
Fans also pointed to Meghan's mum Doria Ragland and her make-up artist's arrival in the UK as signs the couple may have already welcomed their baby boy or girl.

This is purely fan speculation, as no confirmation has been given by Harry and Meghan's reps that they're already parents.
It has previously been reported that Harry would take two week's maternity leave after the arrival of his child.
In other royal news Victoria Arbiter has spoken out about how Meghan’s baby will mark a huge “turning point” in the Royal Family’s history.
