This year's Met Gala in New York took on the theme of "Camp"
IT’S THE night when fashion royalty come together to showcase their style credentials – and this year’s Met Gala red carpet in New York certainly didn’t disappoint.
The glittering fundraiser is hosted in honour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute and sees the stars take to the red, or in this year's case, pink carpet dressed to impress.
Each year the event, nicknamed the “Oscars of the East Coast”, has a different theme to inspire the fashion choices.
This year’s theme Camp: Notes on Fashion prompted a parade of pink, with the understanding being that more is more.
The theme is inspired by a 1964 essay in which American author Susan Sontag defined camp by its "love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration".
Leading the way in the best dressed category was the Queen of camp herself Lady Gaga who showcased not one, not two, not three but FOUR ensembles this evening.
The actress and singer arrived in typical OTT style showcasing an enormous fuschia gown by US designer Brandon Maxwell.
In just three minutes she showcased a further two looks, first an elegant strapless black ballgown and then later a skin tight neon pink slip all by the same designer.
She even swapped up her accessories, adding a pair of bejewelled sunglasses and an oversize mobile phone.
She finished red carpet parade by stripping off to just her underwear and a pair of fish nets – brave, bold and definitely camp, Lady Gaga certainly nailed the theme.
