The name Archie is of German origin and means “genuine”, “bold” or “brave” all characteristics his parents are sure to encourage in their son.

Meanwhile, his middle name Harrison gives a nod to both his mum and dad.

Originating in Britain, the name has since been popularised over in the states, and the word had the literal meaning “son of Harry” – so no prizes for guessing why the couple opted for it.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex introduced their newborn son to the world in St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, just two days after Meghan gave birth.

New mum Meghan described the experience as "magic" adding "I have the two best guys in the world, so I'm really happy."

She went on to say the new arrival has the "sweetest temperament" adding "he's the dream" with proud dad Harry adding "I wonder where he gets that from."

Harry added: "We are just so thrilled to have our own bundle of joy.";

Body language expert Judi James says that "protective" Meghan has "slight inhibitions" about showing off her son today.

First time mum Meg had hoped to have a home birth at Frogmore Cottage in the grounds of Windsor Castle but had to be dashed to hospital.

Meghan remained in the £15,000-a-night Portland private hospital overnight before going in to labour in the early hours of Monday morning before giving birth at the stroke of daybreak.

Harry, 34, made an impromptu press conference on Monday, gushing over the "amazing" experience of being by his wife's side.

The Sussex’s name choice surprised the bookies, who had Archie on at odds of 100/1.

It's thought Harry and Meghan will reject any form of royal title for Archie, and it's believed the tot will be styled Master Mountbatten-Windsor, and not prince or His Royal Highness.

Despite Archie not being an obvious choice, people have tweeted their love for the name.

Former frontrunners for Baby Sussex included Alexander, Arthur and Albert, which had odds of 12/1.

Another name which was popular was Spencer, a tribute to Princess Diana, their son's late grandmother.

Some fans tweeted their disappointment a nod to the late Princess wasn’t worked into the name.

On Tuesday Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed the couple to the "sleep deprivation society"

The Queen also exclaimed she had eight great-grandchildren as she was congratulated on the news, and is expected to visit the baby following her visit to the Windsor Horse Show.
