‘Hypocritical’ Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are ‘behaving like they’re in a royal reality TV show’ slams Piers Morgan
The outspoken columnist said the two duchesses are competing for media attention
MEGHAN Markle and Kate Middleton have come under fire from columnist Piers Morgan for “behaving like they’re in a royal reality TV show”.
The outspoken editor said the duchesses appear to be in a competition where the “winner gets most press coverage in a short period of time.”
Writing on the , Piers said that Meghan, 37, is an extreme self-promoter, who hasn’t cooled off from wanting attention, even after the high-profile birth of her son Archie earlier this month.
He wrote: “Leading the charge, naturally, is the Hollywood actress who seems to view publicity as a giant tiara-adorned tap from which she wishes to determinedly control every single droplet.”
Piers pointed out that on Sunday Meghan “bombarded” royal fans with 14 photos on their Sussex Royal Instagram page, in celebration of their one-year wedding anniversary.
He said the carefully-selected images showed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in a “perfect light”, and argued the posting was “ironic” given Harry’s recent charitable projects.
Piers explained that “aggressively” self-promoting posts are at odds with Harry pointing out that social media can have a negative effect on mental health.
In his attack on the royals and their “PR machine”, Piers also claimed that Meghan was in full control of the CBS documentary, hosted by Gayle King.
He said he feels it is “poppycock” that Meghan claims she has had nothing to do with make-up artist and friend Daniel Martin speaking on the show to say what a down-to-earth mum she will be.
Piers wrote: “Of course she approved her friends to talk out. You think any of them would risk her freezing them out, as she has so many other people in her past including her own father, if she hadn’t?”
He claimed that as an actress, Meghan is used to “spinning favourable media coverage”, but that it’s a “dangerous game”, particularly as Harry is so keen on privacy.
But it’s not only Meghan who came under fire from Piers.
He also attacked the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their family shots at the Chelsea Flower Show this week.
He said the couple were not wanting to be outshone by the Sussexes, and wrote: “The message from the photos was clear: ‘We’re also great parents, and also a great couple too!’”
Piers finally pointed out the stark contrast between the two couples and other members of the royal family, including Prince Charles and the Queen Mother.
He said that Charles and Camilla’s recent royal tour in Germany didn’t get nearly as much media attention as the younger couples would have received, but was highly successful.
He also added that the Queen Mother would be looking down and saying “one’s had enough”, due to the Sussexes and Cambridges breaking the royal code of “Never complain, never explain, and rarely be heard speaking in public.”
