Bride tries to scam bridesmaids out of hundreds by lying about the price of their dresses… to spend the extra cash on her own gown
A BRIDESMAID has taken to social media to reveal how her friend tried to scam her out of hundreds of pounds on the run up to her wedding.
Taking to a wedding shaming forum, she explained how her friend had charged her £320 for a bridesmaid dress that actually retailed for just £160, so the bride could put the rest of the cash towards her own gown.
In the post - which was shared on - the bridesmaid explained: ";Several years ago, a friend of mine asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding.
"There were six of us plus the maid of honour, so seven in total.
"The bride had picked out her dress already, one for the maid of honour and one for the bridesmaids.
"The dress itself was lovely but a bit expensive at $400 each since two of us were still in college so money was super tight.
"Anyhow, the bride asked the maid of honour to coordinate with all of us for fittings/alterations and such as one of her duties.
"The maid of honour decided she would pay for all of the dresses on her credit card because she wanted the air miles and we would pay her back directly.
"None of us minded, especially since she was going to let us pay her back in instalments if we needed. I definitely needed."
The bridesmaid went on to explain she wasn't able to go with the other ladies to pick up the dresses but that she had planned to go by herself the following weekend.
On leaving the shop, there was a misunderstanding regarding the payment, with one shop assistant not realising the dress had already been paid for.
"As I'm walking out the door, another person working there yells out, 'hey, that will be $200!'" She explained.
"I was stunned and totally mortified. I apologised and explained how I thought the maid of honour had paid for it the weekend before.
"The shop owner comes running over to diffuse the situation and confirmed the dress was paid for already.
"I turned to walk out and suddenly realised she said $200 not $400.
"Long story short, the dress was only $200.
"When I confronted the maid of honour about it, she spilled the beans.
"Apparently, the bride and maid of honour plotted together to charge us double to help pay for the bride's dress.
"I let the bridesmaids know and four of us dropped out of the wedding immediately."
Other brides and Reddit users were horrified at the shocking story, with several pointing out that the bride's behaviour was "criminal".
One wrote: "Isn't that stealing? As in, legally actionable?"
While another said: "That's not a bridezilla that's a criminal."
Another agreed, commenting: "Oh wow, that goes beyond bridezilla and straight into theft. Unreal."
Others were surprised that all six of the bridesmaids had not dropped out of the wedding, with one writing: "Only four of you dropped out? The two who forgave her are better people than I am."
