Meghan Markle and Princess Diana’s similar personalities ‘would’ve clashed and ended in conflict’, claims Lady Colin Campbell

CLASHING with your mother-in-law may be expected by most brides, but when it comes to marrying into the Royal family, it's a definite no-go.

But Royal expert Lady Colin Campbell has revealed she believes Meghan Markle may not have been the best of friends with her husband Prince Harry's mum being far from 'ecstatic'.

The 69-year-old socialite, who was written multiple books on the Firm including a biography on Princess Diana, explained the people's princess would have put up with her son's choice.

Speaking to new! magazine, Lady Campbell also revealed that the pair's 'similar personalities' and traits as actresses may have led to trouble.

She said: "It's no accident that Meghan's an actress and everyone called Diana the actress.

"So I think Meghan and Diana have sufficiently similar personalities for there to have been the potential for a conflict - that trouble may well have brewed down the line."

The Jamaican-born writer, who is set to appear on the latest series of Celebs Go Dating, further claimed the Duchess of Sussex had 'sought out' to 'become a princess'.

Despite her beliefs that Princess Diana may not have approved, Lady C sent wishes of success to Meghan, adding she hopes she 'fulfils the expectations' of non-regal women marrying into the Royal family.

And having discovered their 'discomforting parallels', the socialite revealed she ropes Meghan doesn't suffer the same 'instability' and hit the buffers from her new-found level of fame.

"Women [marrying into the family] want perpetual stardom scripted by themselves," she concluded. "With some it works well, with others, the results are mixed. Let's say the jury's out."

Speaking of Prince William's wife the Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Campbell admitted she was doing a 'superb' job that 'couldn't be faulted' in any way.

Earlier this year the confidante to Princess Diana claimed that Meghan had 'considerably changed' Prince Harry, who she described as completely 'besotted' with the American-born actress.

As part of Channel 5 documentary Kate v Meghan: Princesses At War, Lady Campbell revealed the prince is 'beguiled' by his new wife, who gave birth to baby Archie two months ago.
