Gymbox ad is slammed as ‘creepy’ after telling members to get ‘hot and sweaty with a teacher’
'CREEPY' GYM advert has been slammed after inviting people to "get hot and sweaty with a teacher- without getting punished".
The yellow billboard advertisement for London based, Gymbox has caused an uproar online, with Twitter users branding it "creepy and disappointing".
The British fitness company prides itself on "making sweating enjoyable", however it seems this time it's taken it's tongue in cheek humour too far.
One Twitter user pointed out that the ad also promised "very personal trainers" and called it "sex pesty".
While another added that it sounded like the brand were "confusing real life with porn".
Women claimed the advert encouraged gym goers to sexually harass Gymbox's personal trainers, with one saying "If I were working there I would feel like that gave men license to try it on while I'm trying to work."
More fans wondered how the marketing team thought it was a good idea, while others called Gymbox "awful" and "tiresome".
Gymbox is no stranger to controversy, recently they were criticised for their pride signage after using a slur for transgender people.
India Hendrie said on Twitter:
"Okay, so I saw this yesterday while at #pridelondon2019 and 😬 can we put these folks on blast?
I get they were aiming for a gym theme but "trap" is also a slur for trans people so it is EXTREMELY not okay to use that as a replacement for the T in LGBTQ."
The brand responded by sending out a full apology for using the "damaging word" and claimed it was unintentional.
While back in January 2018, actress Carrie Fletcher was not impressed with the brand's billboard which encouraged people to "punish yourself buff". She claimed the promotional message left her feeling "angry" and "uncomfortable", as exercise should be about "self care not punishment." The Sun has approached Gymbox for comment.
