Princess Diana would be ‘putting two fingers up to the monarchy’ over Prince Harry’s marriage to Meghan Markle, says former bodyguard
PRINCESS Diana's former bodyguard has said the late royal would be "putting her two fingers up at the monarchy" over Prince Harry's marriage to Meghan Markle.
Ken Wharfe worked with Diana for eight years and believes the princess would have liked the fact that Harry "had married an American divorcee".
Speaking to the , Wharfe said: "I can see Diana putting two fingers up to the monarchy on the strength of that one, saying, ‘This is fantastic, this is the future of this family, this is the way it has to be.’”
He also said Diana would have liked how Meghan has been dealing with the media, explaining her career as an actress has given her "a huge advantage".
"Meghan is a consummate performer with her theatrical background, which gives her a huge advantage in dealing with the public," he continued.
“I remember her first public engagement with Harry in Nottingham, I think it was, and later at a radio station in Brixton and she was so brilliant in dealing with the media and talking to people with sincerity in her voice.
“Diana would have liked that.”
In contrast, earlier this month, royal expert Lady Colin Campbell revealed she believes Meghan Markle may not have been the best of friends with Diana.
Speaking to new! magazine, Lady Campbell also revealed that the pair's "similar personalities" and traits as actresses may have led to trouble.
She said: "It's no accident that Meghan's an actress and everyone called Diana the actress.
"So I think Meghan and Diana have sufficiently similar personalities for there to have been the potential for a conflict - that trouble may well have brewed down the line."
However, it's believed Meghan and Harry paid tribute to Diana when their son Archie was born in May.
Fans believe the royal couple may have subtly honoured Harry’s mum with their newborn’s full name - Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
Some have pointed out that the baby boy’s first name could share a connection to Diana’s ancestor, Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll.
