Boris Johnson’s girlfriend Carrie Symonds’ £120 Ghost dress is being flogged for over double the price on eBay
YOU’VE heard of the Kate effect but it seems that the Carrie effect is the latest phenomenon to hit the fashion industry.
Following her appearance outside No10 last week fashion fans scrambled to get their hands on the £120 Ghost dress worn by PM Boris Johnson’s girlfriend Carrie Symonds.
The floral frock sold out almost instantly, and now shoppers are forking out over double the price for the price on eBay.
The "Luella" dress in "Shadowed Daisy Red" is usually available in sizes XXS to XL, and also comes in black and white.
There are currently 18 listings for the dress on the auction site, with sellers using the PM’s girlfriend as a selling point by including a photo of Carrie as part of the listing.
A size 12 dress currently has the highest asking price at £310 having received 16 bids, making it over double the RRP.
The auctions are likely to be the work of so-called ‘fashion flippers’ who buy popular items in bulk and then sell them on at hugely inflated prices.
Despite remaining on the sidelines outside No10, the former PR chief - who The Sun revealed will be moving into Number 11 with 55-year-old Boris - proved popular with style watchers.
Her pink and red floral midi-dress by Ghost sold out on the brand's website within hours of the impromptu appearance.
Carrie paired the chic frock with nude Gianvito Rossi heels and gold hoop earrings.
According to Ghost's website, the dress “features a high neckline with back fastening and voluminous sleeves and seam detailing at the bodice for definition”.
The description adds that there is a slight flare to the skirt and "an invisible side zip for an ultra-flattering fit”.
Such was the approval for her outfit on Twitter, that many have touted her as a new fashion icon with the same selling-power as royals Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.
Taking to the social media site, one person wrote: "Reward provided for anyone who can tell me where Carrie Symonds’ dress is from."
Piers Morgan shocked many when he commented: "Speaking in my capacity as Britain’s fashion expert, I loved @carriesymonds’ dress."
