Bake Off fig rolls recipe – How to make Paul Hollywood’s classic dish as seen in biscuit week
BAKE OFF is back and this week the contestants will be trying their hand at biscuits.
For the technical challenge, the bakers will be attempting to create a perfect fig roll, but how can you make your own version at home?
What is the recipe for fig rolls?
- Using the creaming method, make the biscuit dough (Unsalted butter, muscovado sugar and icing sugar for dusting).
- Cook the figs in sugar and water until thick, blitz into a paste with the spices. (Contestants flattened out the dough after 30 mins).
- Divide the fig filling down the middle of each strip (pipe it in) and then roll and seal.
- Cut each roll into six equal pieces and transfer into a lined sheet.
- Run a fork along the top of the fig roll to decorate with visible lines and to slightly flatten it.
- Then bake.
What did Paul Hollywood say about the fig roll challenge?
Bake Off host Paul Hollywood set the technical challenge to be making fig rolls as they are a “favourite of his dad’s.”
He advised the bakers to “be accurate and neat.”
Presenter Noel Fielding told the contestants that the full instructions were to make 12 fig rolls, and said: “Your fig rolls must use a soft biscuit dough and must be filled with a lightly spiced fig filling.
“They need to be identical in shape and size. You have 90 minutes."
What is the theme for episode two of Bake Off?
As we said, we know it is going to be Biscuit Week.
In a sneak peek we saw that the Signature Bake will need to be completely covered in chocolate.
The Technical Challenge will then be "an old-school technical" - which looked remarkably like fig rolls.
Then the Showstopper Challenge will be a "giant biscuit sculpture".
Channel 4 have stated the second instalment will begin with a luxurious chocolate coated signature bake, then a snack with family significance for Paul and an eye-catching showstopper.
