And for brides such as Leona Lewis, with her gorgeous, sequin Dior evening gown, the second dresses can be even more spectacular than the first.
Even Kate Middleton opted to change into a different dress for her evening reception, after showcasing her spectacular Alexander McQueen wonder for her 2011 wedding.
After the ceremony, the stunning royal ditched her elaborate, lace gown and changed into a romantic, ivory satin wonder – also by the fashion house – with a furry stole.

The Duchess of Sussex stunned royal well-wishers when she married Prince Harry in a breathtaking Givenchy gown with a sweeping bateau neckline.
However, the new royal changed into something slinkier and modern for the couple’s evening reception.

Ellie Goulding
The singer tied the knot with Caspar Jopling, 27, at York Minster cathedral last week in a bespoke Chloé dress, but changed into a second wedding dress for the reception.
Ellie went for an off-the-shoulder white dress, with a thigh-high split embroidered with jewels.
The Love Me Like You Do hitmaker revealed her second “special” dress was designed by Stella McCartney.
Kate Middleton
Millions watched the royal wedding back in 2011 and the Duchess of Cambridge’s lace, long-sleeved Alexander McQueen gown stole the show, but there was a second dress many didn’t see.
After the ceremony, the stunning bride ditched her elaborate, lace gown and changed into a romantic, ivory satin wonder with a furry stole.
The sensational dress was also designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen but featured a much simpler, but equally stunning, design.
It featured a flattering sweetheart neckline and gorgeous train, and was worn for an intimate evening celebration with her nearest and dearest at Buckingham Palace.
And there was even a bit more bling on the evening alternative, with the addition of a bedazzling diamanté waistline that accentuated her trim waist.
Billie Faiers
The former Towie star wed husband Greg Shepherd on the island of of Kuramathi in the Maldives in March in a glamorous fishtail lace crystal embellished gown.
But after the beach ceremony, mum-of-two Billie changed into a second look for the special day.
She wore a custom-made Zeynep Kartal white playsuit with a lace overlay for the evening event, and also went barefoot for her first dance.
Leona Lewis
X Factor singer Leona Lewis wed long-term partner Dennis Jauch in Italy in July and stunning in a white Mira Zwillinger wedding dress with a semi-sheer bodice and soft tulle skirt.
But for the wedding reception, she slipped into a sequin-adorned blush pink Dior gown that looks fit for a princess.
The dress features a V-neckline and delicate embroidery on the bodice and skirt.
Poppy Delevingne
Poppy ensured all eyes were on her during her wedding to former model James Cook in May 2014, wearing a stunning bespoke Chanel Couture gown.
However, the actress wowed for a second time for her repeat vows in Morocco in a much more boho-style dress.
She wore a custom gown from Peter Dundas, Pucci’s creative director, and it featured a floral trim, full sleeves and a laced neckline.
