Aspiring designer transforms her dull apartment into a ‘stunning’ home, filled with marble floors, gold fixtures and ‘millennial pink’ accessories

AN ASPIRING interior designer has shared her incredible flat transformation online – turning her pad from a dull layout to a chic home with splashes of gold, pink and marble.

Olamide James, 27, got the keys to her first flat in June, and set about giving it a complete makeover.

Olamide, from north London, stayed at her parents while she revamped her home, including laying new floors, re-doing the kitchen and overhauling the bathroom.

She tweeted photos of her progress as each stage was completed, with her thread now going viral after racking up 36,000 likes.

The self-employed company director posted on : “This is a before and after 2 months post renovation after purchasing my home.

“This is my living room area. As you can see I’m extra and love interior design.”

She’d transformed the plain room, with grey carpet, into a sumptuous lounge with carefully placed artwork, marble floor, a geodesic table and mirror, as well as golden armchairs.

Thrifty Olamide did a lot of the work herself, assembling wardrobes and desks from Ikea, as well as painting the fixtures and fittings in her flat.

She said: “I shopped at places such as Wayfair, Dunelm, and Homesense - but the chairs, sofa, and headboard were made bespoke."

Olamide changed the workstops, splashback, taps and sink in her kitchen – painting all the accessories gold again.

Posting online, she explained how she transformed the rest of the house, saying: “My en-suite bathroom before and after.

“Changed the fixtures to gold of course. Changed the tiles to marble and obviously went extra with the décor.

“My bedroom before and after. Changed the floor to marble, got a bespoke headboard made , changed the light fixture and my friend kindly tidied my bed sheet.”

And while she described her spare bedroom as the “least exciting” part of the project, she came up with a new word to described the space – a ‘cloffice’ – a mix between an office and a walk-in wardrobe.

She said: “This is probably the least exciting but the most practical room and something I’ve always wanted.

“I converted the 2nd bedroom into an open wardrobe / office.

“I call it my ‘cloffice’ using one room for multiple purposes is always a constructive choice.”

All in all it took around two months to get everything up to Olamide’s standards.

She added: “I stayed at my family's home until everything was completed in July.

"Most of the work was done in one month and a second month was just for finishing touches."

People praised her taste and designs online, with one person commenting: “This is so beautiful.”

Someone else said: “When I buy my first home, I'm heading to you inbox.”

A third wrote: “I’m screenshotting for future reference.”

And this person added: “How do you get all these ideas for interior design? I have no clue when it comes to making the house look cute and nice.”

Olamide added she charges between £25 and £200 for mood, boards, consultations and personal shopping for interior design.
