Woman’s damp-ridden council flat bedroom is transformed into a ‘little haven’ by her granddaughter for just £230
A WOMAN has revealed how she transformed her grandmother's damp-ridden council flat bedroom into a "little haven" for only £230.
Tracey Davies, 47, from Worcester, shared incredible before-and-after images of the home transformation process on a Mrs Hinch and raved about her purse-friendly finds.
Tracey's grandmother Frances first moved into the flat in 1929 and was moved into a care home six months ago.
The mum-of-two has been living in her grandmother's home with her husband for the past 23 years and her daughter has also recently moved in with her boyfriend.
Wanting to make the most of the space and give her grandma's tired old bedroom a whole new look, Tracey told : "We went from being in a cramped room, with barely any storage to having all three bedrooms."
Although Tracey admitted that she felt "guilty" stripping the damp-ridden walls and dated wallpaper in her grandmother's room, she decided the flat was overdue a makeover and looked to Mrs Hinch's budget-friendly interiors Instagram feed for advice.
Sharing images of the room before, during and after the makeover, Stacey wrote: "After two weeks of b****y hard work, I’ve done it!! Nan is 95 and kept EVERYTHING.
“The furniture in her room hadn’t been moved for over 20 years so the damp and cobwebs were vile but now it’s my little haven.”
Amazingly, Tracey only spent £230 on the refurbishment - including £123 on new furniture and £67.94 on wallpaper.
She bought blinds from Blinds2Go for £36.45 and also spent money on some paint to refurnish her gran’s old wardrobe.
As well as re-carpeting the floors and giving the walls a lick of light pink paint, Tracey also invested in some IKEA bedside tables and a pack of 4 mirrors for just £7 - which another Mrs Hinch fan raved about earlier this week.
Unsurprisingly, members of the Facebook group were blown away by Tracey's effort and her post racked up over 1,900 likes.
One replied: "Well done, it looks beautiful and I'm sure your nan would agree."
Another added: "Well done! You’ve worked so hard on that house. What a difference! - hope your nan is ok."
Meanwhile, a third replied: "What a beautiful transformation and I bet your nan is happy that her home will continue to be home for her family."
Tracey's bedroom makeover:
- Blind2Go blinds - £36.50
- Matalan duvet - £30
- I Want Wallpaper roll - £67.94
- IKEA bedside tables - £56
- Poundstretcher lampshade - £5
- Amazon ottoman - £25
- IKEA mirror tiles - £7
Total: £227.44
