I dish up a 3-course Christmas dinner for £1.80 a head with yellow sticker deals – we still feast on smoked salmon

SCANNING her local supermarket, Jo Bohm loads up her trolley with smoked salmon, chicken and luxury mince pies for Christmas dinner.

But while half of us will fork out from £5 to £20 a head on our Xmas meal, the full-time mum of two will be dishing up her three-course feast for an incredible £1.84 a head.

, who lives with husband Stuart, 40, a self-employed tradesman, and kids Maisie 12, and Freddie, nine, in Newport, Isle of Wight, says: “I’ve always shopped like this.

“I learnt it from my gran and mum who were keen yellow-sticker shoppers. They were both single mums, so it was about being thrifty.

“Last month, in a trial run for Christmas Day, I nipped to my local supermarkets over the course of ten days, and I managed to pick up a three-course feast for four for £7.36.

“We had smoked salmon, rocket and Philadelphia cheese; a main of chicken, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, carrots, parsnips, Brussels sprouts, stuffing, Yorkshire puddings and gravy; and a mince pie and slice of cheesecake each for pudding.

“I’ve cleared out my freezer, as I always do in the first week of December, and now I’ve started shopping for the meal itself.

“Yellow sticker shopping isn’t hard, you just need to shop around and have plenty of space in your freezer.

"If you’re driving past a supermarket just pop in and see if they’ve got anything marked down.

“I know some people don’t like yellow sticker shopping, but I don’t think you should get into debt at Christmas.

“I love bagging a bargain, it makes me feel good and we’ll still have a delicious meal on Christmas Day.”
