Tight fit
What to do if your turkey doesn’t fit in the oven – Christmas cooking advice you need to know
An oversized turkey doesn't have to ruin your Christmas
BOUGHT the perfect Christmas turkey only to find it doesn't fit in your oven?
It sounds like a silly mistake to make, but it's more common than you think. Here's how to solve the problem.
How can you fit your turkey in the oven?
Cutting down your Christmas turkey can help create more space in the oven.
Here are some tips:
- Cut off the legs by using a sharp knife to cut through the skin at the point where they meet the body so you can see the joint.
- Pull the leg away from the body until it pops out of the socket. Cut between the joint to finish the job.
- The legs can be cooked in a separate roasting tin; put them in about half an hour before the bird itself, and you’ll end up with juicy breasts and perfect legs.
Should you ever cram your turkey in whole?
Do not try to squeeze the turkey into the oven or cook it if it is touching the sides.
This will cook the turkey unevenly and burn it in some places.
