Meghan Markle’s favourite cocktail is her own version of Pimm’s as she ‘loves all things British’

MEGHAN Markle is a known foodie who enjoys a glass of wine, but her favourite cocktail has been revealed – and it’s her own take on a British classic.

The Duchess of Sussex shared her favourite alcoholic drink, aside from trusty wine, in her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig.

The 38-year-old also revealed her love of all things British in the post written in 2014, years before she met Prince Harry.

The mum to Archie Harrison put her own spin on the summery classic Pimm's, giving her version a new name – The Tig Cup.

She wrote: “While I generally opt to whet my whistle with a glass of rosé or crisp Sauvignon Blanc, sometimes the day calls for a cocktail. Cue The TIG Cup.

"Having a love of all things Brit, I wanted to do a twist on their signature Pimm's Cup.”

Pimms usually calls for cucumber, mint and strawberries, but Meghan adds grapefruit and celery in hers.

She added: “Using cues from the season, with fresh and vibrant farmers' market ingredients, this drink will whet your whistle and keep you cool during those long summer days turned nights.

“This is a guaranteed crowd pleaser, and a nod to the fresh picked flavours of the season. Cheers!"

She explained her method to make the drink, saying you first put all the fruit and vegetables into a glass and fill with ice.

She said: “In a shaker, add a couple ounces of gin and a splash of the maraschino cherry liqueur.

“Don't be scared on the name of the latter – I personally loathe syrupy sweet drinks but this has just enough of a subtle sweetness that it really acts as more of a back note in the drink.

“Plus the maraschino cherry of it all reminds me of drinking Shirley temples as a little girl. My, have we grown up.”

Shake the alcohol ‘hard’, and pour into the glass.

Meghan added: “Pour a two count of tonic and a three count of soda water.

“I don't gravitate to the taste of tonic so I always go heavier on the soda, but feel free to reverse the measurements of these two, or play around with it to taste.

“Strain the gin and liqueur mixture into the two glasses, splitting equally.

“Finish each drink with a twist of the grapefruit over the top.”

Meghan also revealed her idea of a perfect summer’s day in the post, which comes as the UK roasted with highs of 33c over the bank holiday weekend.

The former actress revealed she enjoyed: “Sun-kissed afternoons, cocktail in hand, surrounded by nothing but the laughter of your closest mates, an Otis Redding playlist, and the whistling breeze of the wind.

“I'm talking about perfection, people. The perfection that comes with summertime.

“Picnics and barbecues, laying out by the pool with friends, and toasting to the season are high on my list.”

Meanwhile we recently revealed why Meghan Markle always has her hands clasped in the same way.

And the Duchess shared a sneak peek at her new clothing range in a behind-the-scenes clip.

Plus it's been claimed Archie Harrison is taking after Prince Harry with ‘tufts of ginger hair’.
