Mum raves about £5 storage container that keeps fruit fresh for a week longer
THERE'S nothing more irritating than buying in a batch of fresh fruit, only for it to go off just days later.
However, one mum has discovered a genius solution to extend the shelf life of your produce by a whole week - and all you'll need to do is invest in a £5 storage container.
In a post on Facebook, the woman named Cassie explained how she had conducted an experiment in her kitchen using strawberries.
She placed a punnet of the fruit left in its original packaging in the fridge.
Alongside this, the mum placed another punnet purchased at the same time in a Sistema FreshWorks container.
Constantly monitoring them, she established that by putting the produce in the plastic box - in addition to the fridge - they had been able to stay fresh for a week longer.
"You don't need to change the filter or anything so it's a worthwhile investment if you buy bulk fruits," she added.
Her review of the container - which can be bought from Sainsbury's, John Lewis and Dunelm - received hundreds of responses online.
One person wrote: "I love them and I love how much fresher everything stays.
"They've definitely paid for themselves with all the food I haven't had to throw out."
Another commented: "I have a few of these and everything stays fresher a heap longer. Did have a Tupperware one and can honestly say these are just as good."
Other mums on social media have also been sharing how the containers have kept their veg fresh for up to three weeks.
One wrote: "I've had an [aubergine] in one for nearly two weeks and it is perfect."
Another added: "I still have some fruit and veg from almost three weeks ago."
