The Sun’s Who Cares Wins Awards – how to watch on TV

THE SUN'S Who Cares Wins Awards, which honours NHS and health heroes, will this year be shown on the TV for the first time.

Here we look at how you can tune in to celebrate the amazing doctors, nurses, midwives, surgeons, volunteers, researchers and charity workers who got us through the pandemic.

How can I watch The Sun's Who Cares Wins Awards? 

NHS heroes will be honoured by The Sun’s Who Cares Wins Awards which is to be shown on TV for the first time.

The annual celebration of healthcare staff will air on Channel 4 on Sunday, September 19 from 7.30pm to 9pm.

What celebrities will attend? 

Football icons David Beckham and Gary Lineker will join TV favourites including Kate Garraway and Sir Trevor McDonald at our celebration of healthcare heroes, which is sponsored by The National Lottery.

Other guests include England ace Tyrone Mings, Virgin Radio’s Chris Evans, and Spice Girl Geri Horner.

The line-up also includes rock legend Sir Rod Stewart, his wife Penny Lancaster, footballer Troy Deeney and Piers Morgan.

Also featuring on the night are boxing ace Anthony Joshua, ­comedian Bill Bailey and ­Manchester United star and ­campaigner Marcus Rashford.

Frontline emergency services staff will be honoured as part of our new 999 Hero award.

The Caroline Flack Mental Health Hero award will honour the late Love Island host by recognising an individual working to improve mental health.

Who is presenting? 

Davina McCall is to host The Sun’s Who Cares Wins Awards where NHS Covid heroes will be honoured.

She said: "It is a total privilege to be presenting The Sun’s Who Cares Wins awards.

"We all owe so much to the incredible people who work tirelessly to care for us, it will be an honour to meet the winners and nominees and hear their amazing stories."

What are the Who Cares Wins Awards?  

Our awards, held annually since 2017, celebrate our amazing doctors, nurses, midwives, surgeons, volunteers, researchers and charity workers.

The awards are sponsored by The National Lottery and held in conjunction with NHS Charities Together. Last year generous Sun readers raised over £1million for the charity in order to get vital support to staff in their hour of need.

This year's awards are especially important - as they will give thanks to the Brits who kept the UK going throughout the pandemic.

PM Boris Johnson was at the last awards in 2019 to honour two porters who saved baby Logan Clifford when he stopped breathing.

Speaking ahead of the awards, the PM said: “Through my own battle with Covid, I saw first-hand quite how brilliant our NHS is. 

“I can’t wait to meet all of the worthy winners in person, hear their stories, and give them my very personal thanks.”
