MANY men are measuring their penis size incorrectly - as the average isn't what many think it is.

Experts examined 17 previous studies which measured the anatomy of 15,521 men - deducing the average size of a flaccid male member was 3.61 inches.

Meanwhile, the average erect penis is 5.16 inches in length, according to a study in 2014 by the British Journal of International Urology.

And girth results came in at between 3.66 inches and 4.59 inches.

Consulting urologist at King’s College London Gordon Muir said this makes the average "slightly smaller than a cucumber".

It means men are often measuring their penis size all wrong - as they're trying to attain unrealistic standards so may be tempted to fudge results.

Assessing the averages published by British Journal of International Urology, it appears that what blokes view as "normal" is potentially clouded by pornographic actors.

Speaking to Women's Health, Muir said: "That’s usually because they’ve only ever seen another erect penis in a porn film."

While some people may think having an eight-inch penis is pretty normal - it's actually well above the average size.

This can interfere with how men ascertain where their own penis stacks up.

The average erect size today marks a step jump from 4.8 inches measured in 1992.

It is feared that the hike could be indicative of poor diets, sedentary lifestyles and chemicals - factors which can also negatively impact fertility.

Dr Michael Eisenberg, Professor of Urology at Stanford Medicine, said: "If we're seeing this fast of a change, it means that something powerful is happening to our bodies.

"We should try to confirm these findings and if confirmed, we must determine the cause of these changes."

CHILL OUT

Experts argue that men worry about their penis size far too much.

A study based on the results of an internet-based survey of more than 50,000 men and women revealed that 45 per cent of men would like a larger penis.

But excessive concern was higher among men with average-sized penises than men with smaller ones, the NHS says.

The report by Professor Kevan Wylie, a consultant in sexual medicine at the University of Sheffield, also showed that women don’t care about their partner’s penis size as much as they do.

A much higher percentage of women (85 per cent) were satisfied with their partner's penis size than the percentage of men (55 per cent) who were satisfied with their own penis size.

Concern over penis size is typically rooted in whether it will be sexually satisfying for a partner.

While some studies have suggested this is true, others have shown that “bigger” is not always “better”.

One survey of 4,700 women found the best penis size for women to climax is eight inches - but any bigger and the orgasm rates drop.

In fact, men with a whopping 11-inch member got 30 per cent of women to reach climax, which is the same proportion for men with a four inch penis.

Another study asked what size women prefer in a relationship compared with a one-night stand.

Researchers found that the average length women preferred for a long-term relationship was 6.3 inches, but for one-night stands, women opted for slightly bigger penises, with a length of 6.4 inches.

Experts say when it comes to great sex, size doesn't matter - it's about "whether you are romantic, tender and sensitive to their needs and desires".
