Thrones fans will absolutely love this themed walking tour of the Spanish city
Scenes from TV hit Game of Thrones were filmed here and locals have created a guided tour taking in the locations
STROLLING the cobbled streets of Seville, it is easy to get lost in the culture.
There are wine and tapas bars on every corner, locals feast al-fresco and almost every building is ornately detailed.
In fact, there is so much to see, walking is the only way to get around without missing it.
But first stop was my hotel, Las Casas del Rey de Baeza.
As soon as we stepped inside, I knew I was in for a treat weekend.
It is a small hotel that captures the relaxed essence of Spain. Seville oranges in baskets set the tone and it makes you feel at home.
There is even a cute rooftop pool to discover — and a spa.
For dinner we walked 20 minutes to El Pinton, a lovely tapas restaurant in an old Moorish building.
The place is full of locals, always a good sign, and the staff cannot do enough. Cod, patatas bravas, beef, tuna tartare — all the tapas classics — were there in abundance and were beautifully cooked and served.
Seville Cathedral is just around the corner and looks amazing lit up at night. During the day you can climb the Giralda bell tower and soak up views across the city.
Several scenes from TV hit Game of Thrones were filmed in Seville and proud locals have created a two-hour themed walking tour taking in the locations.
But you don’t need to be a fan of the show to enjoy the stroll because it also showcases the city’s spectacular history.
Being led around the Moorish gem that is the Alcazar royal palace, with its stunningly ornate tiling, you can imagine a bygone world of power and wealth.
Welcome, too, to Game of Thrones’ magical Kingdom of Dorne, its Water Gardens palace and Sunspear castle.
The epic grounds are perfectly maintained, with tinkling fountains, dreamy ponds and a marvellous maze of hedges. Walking along the path toward the Pavilion of Carlos V, I could almost see the fight between Game of Thrones’ Jaime Lannister, Bronn and the Sand Snakes.
The palace was built to impress and that is what it does.
After all that excitement, you are ready for a lunch and can continue the Westeros theme with tapas at the Casa Curro restaurant — where actress Emilia Clarke, who plays the show’s Daenerys Targaryen, celebrated her birthday while filming.
This favourite haunt of the cast and crew is lined with photos of them with the locals.
It serves up fabulous local cuisine and an array of dishes come named after the show’s characters, such as the Arya plum salad or the Lannister — which is a venison, black beer and red berry hotpot.
We were then ready to continue our tour, to the city’s bullring.
It is used for concerts, horse shows and a bullfight if you choose to visit it during the fair in April — but most famously it is now known as the Daznak fighting pit.
Though computer-generated wizardry was used to make the pit look bigger in the fantasy series, it is still vast. To sit in one of the stalls and think about all that has gone on there down the years, not to mention everything to get it on screen, can feel quite overwhelming.
Just a short walk from the bullring, there is also the Game of Thrones Museum.
It is not every day you get to dress up in Ned Stark’s coat and sword and come face to face with a White Walker. This is an experience no fan will be able to resist.
The museum is filled with memorabilia from all the series and exclusive pictures taken during filming in Seville.
If you want to splash out on an extra-fancy hotel while in Seville, stay at Hotel Alfonso XIII, perfectly located for the tour and strolls around the city’s cobbled old town — where the splendid Plaza de España square is another marvel not to be missed.
This hotel really is the height of luxury and fit for a princess.
Just like super Seville itself — where I’d certainly be Game for another visit.
