The name is being used on several accounts on the social media site that don't appear to have any link to one person in particular, making it highly likely it's a dodgy scam.

Over the last few days several warnings have been floating around Facebook warning users not to add or accept the creepy account, which all go by the name of Madhu Shah and have the same profile photo of this woman.

According to a post by a man called Pawan Manghnani, this woman has been sending out friend requests willy nilly - even to your mates.

He warns users to "not take this scam lightly", adding if she's on your friends list, "just unfriending them is not enough".

Pawan explains: "There are about 34 different Facebook accounts (on last count) with the same name, same profile pic (attached for ref) but different cities.

"The worrying thing is, I have more than 150 mutual friends with this fake account since about four years now, but none of the friends I checked with knows her/him.

"Some even have about 500 mutual friends with zero idea about the true identity."

The Madhu Shah accounts are so widespread that if you aren't friends with her, you can probably still find one of the accounts by putting her name into the search bar - where you're likely to see more than one user with the same name and picture.

It's been widely suggested this is a scam, but no one knows the reason the account is furiously adding so many people and how they've managed to acquire such a huge amount of friends.

Pawan urges people who come across the profile to report it to Facebook so the "gang of crooks" behind it can be tracked down and blocked.

He recommends users search their friends list, check their mutual friends and tag them, report the account to Facebook as fake, block Madhu Shah's account and share the post to warn others.

Pawan then posted an update explaining he contacted Facebook's India office on the morning of May 16, and after they initially "did not seem very interested" they are now "investigating the issue properly".
