Woman celebrates divorce from ‘cheating ex-husband’ by posing for snaps in which she burns photos and rips up her wedding dress
The photographs of Catherine Meisenburg’s divorce shoot went viral and have been shared more than 60,000 times on Facebook
A WOMAN put a knife through her wedding dress and destroyed several memorable items from her marriage in a symbolic divorce photoshoot.
Catherine Meisenburg, 24, burned photos of the couple and smashed a wedding cake with her former surname using a baseball bat to help her move on from the relationship.
The mum-of-three took part in an increasingly popular trend in the United States where divorcees partake in an empowering shoot to celebrate their new relationship status, the .
Catherine told Daily Mail Australia: “We were childhood sweethearts. All through the marriage he wouldn't get a job, had a job but didn't want to keep it.
“He was cheating on me, always lying, always out with his friends.”
Catherine, from Iowa, America, met her ex-partner when she was 14 and admitted it took her three years to have the “courage to call it quits”.
In one image Catherine can be seen stepping out of her wedding dress while sporting knee-high black leather boots, a leather corset and denim shorts.
Another set up shows Catherine holding a photograph of her and her husband while it is in flames, as she gazes into the distance.
captured the series of images and her business Facebook page has recently jumped from 350 likes to 16,000.

Angela added: “We decided to do it for fun - I did it for free so I would have something more to post on my page ... I never in a million years expected such a reaction.
“It was very relieving for her, that last goodbye. It did hurt a little bit, she had a pretty horrible breakup with him and a horrible past couple of years.”
The set of images has been commented on more than 5,000 times and viewers are divided over whether they are a good way to get over a break-up or disrespectful of the love they once shared.
One person wrote: “These pictures are tasteless and disrespectful. A divorce isn't something to celebrate. Yes, if the two of you didn't work out that's perfectly fine.”
While another user commented: “This is crass and tasteless to me. Celebrate being single if anything, but not the divorce. That's sick.”
But the majority of people supported her decision to do the photoshoot.
One person pointed out that the photos capture an emotional time of her life: “The photographer captured the rare emotions, in each picture. My hat's off to the young lady, for doing this.”
And another user noted: “As a newly divorced woman I LOVE these!!”
While another Facebook user admitted she had also celebrated divorce: “I threw a huge divorce party for mine, these pics are amazing and you did great work.”
