Frozen food brand attempts some football banter but it goes badly wrong

THE Euro 2016 clash between Iceland and Portugal led to an awkward Twitter moment for the folk at a well-known freezer firm.

An attempt at patriotic brand banter from the team at Iceland –  the company not the country – got frozen out by Nando’s in a pretty spectacular way.

After Iceland's Birkir Bjarnason scored an equaliser in the match they tweeted: “ Unlucky lads...”

The only problem is that Nando’s is not Portuguese as the company hails from South Africa.

Nando’s were quick to response to the trolling.

They tweeted: “We're South African... this is awkward.”

They weren’t on top for long though – as restaurant chain Burger & Lobster waded in and equalised.

They tweeted Nando’s Google description, which reads “Home of the legendary Portuguese flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken.”

Another added: “@IcelandFoods do you think @Cristiano ever shop's at Iceland.”

But Iceland weren’t giving up easily.

They fired back: “Rumour has it he was a regular at our Old Trafford store during his time in England.”

Final score – one all.
