According to the listing, the UK size 8.5 trainers are the only pair of their kind in the world as they are a 'factory sample' and are printed with the words 'not for resale' on the tongue.

Adidas trainer expert Ali Gammack of lovevintageadidas.com said: "I have never seen these Sambas before but if there was only one pair produced then that's obviously why.

"Collectors are always on the look out for limited releases.

"When a rare pair become available there is usually quite a buzz generated.

"Therefore if these are a sample and only one pair was ever produced then I'm sure the same kind of buzz will occur if the right people know about it."

The Samba is one of Adidas's best-selling models and was first produced in the 1950s for footballers to train in icy conditions and indoors.

It's renowned for its bold colours, classic design and standard 'three stripe' design.

The cult footwear are especially popular in Liverpool and were picked as one of the top 11 vintage trainers in 2014.

The shoes eventually sold for £2,800 on the auction site - just £200 short of the seller's estimate.

Let's hope the buyer likes them as returns are not accepted.
