First came thigh gaps and fingermouthing, now celebrity women are sharing snaps of their ‘ab cracks’ with the world
Celebrities and Victoria's Secret models are leading the ab crack pack... but is it sending the right message?
WITH the promise of a holiday or warmer British days on the horizon, many of us are frantically trying to get our ‘summer bodies’ in shape.
But forget focusing on your thigh gap because there’s a new, scarier trend in town – the ab crack.
The skinny new trend involves creating an ‘irrigation ditch’ down the centre of a woman’s abs.
Supermodels, celebrities and fitness bloggers are all hitting the gym in a bid to achieve the desired bikini body – but are the ripped stomachs sending the wrong message to fans?
Some think so - among them Rivkie Baum, the editor of plus size magazine SLiNK, who told the she wishes she'd NEVER heard of the ab crack pack.
Rivkie said: “As summer holidays creep ever closer and women already feel the pressure from media and advertising to be so called ‘beach ready’, this just adds another layer of pressure as it is once again very much focused around the media construct of having a ‘bikini body’.
“It is sad that as we live in an age where social media plays an ever bigger part in our lives that it is consistently used to add pressure to women.
“As some of the biggest consumers of image based social platforms it is likely that this trend willth have a further detrimental effect on many women’s already fragile body confidence.”
Some are already taking to Twitter to share their aspirations to achieve an ab crack.
Others were disgusted by the new trend.
